CLEMOES
« on: Thursday 06 December 07 23:04 UTC (UK) »

Well, I've not got very far (organised) yet & can't see how to link this branch to the tree I'm building.

The details so far:

John Clemoes married Anna Grey (1830's at a guess)

One of their children was John (Guy Grey) Clemoes (1839 - ? ), who married Mary Button (1847 - ? )

Their children:
Elizabeth C Clemoes (1877 - ? ), who was brought up by her maternal uncle it would apear.
John (Guy) Clemoes (1879 - ?) my great grandfather.
And: Lillie, Thomas, Charles, William & Bertha.

Hi Allymoose,

I think it is best to split this from the other topic and move it out to the active lookup board where we can see what we can do with it.

For a good starting point I note:

CLEMOES John = GRAY Anna 2 Apr 1829 Endellion

The IGI has some submitted info for the family

John CLEMOES married Anna GRAY, 1 Apr 1829, Cornwall. He died in 1862.

John Guy Gray CLEMOES born 18 Oct 1838, Endellion. Married Mary BUTTON 13 Jun 1876, St Mabyn. Died 1911.

Quite a few siblings as well. Most with GRAY as a second or third christian name.

Hi Ian,

Glad you joined us  Wink Thought it best to split this off your thread

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,144624.0.html

Checking the census John Gray CLEMOES gives his place of birth as St Minver

The family are in St Kew by 1841 "Clemas" where the youngest brother is born. By 1851 they are in St Endellion "Clemas"

I wonder if I can contribute?
I am researching my Harry family and have a marriage 18 Nov 1822 St Mewan of my Nicholas Harry from St Stephen in Brannel,to Jane/Jenny Hammer.
I found that her parents were John Hammer and Loveday Clemo who married 4 Jul 1795 St Mewan.I believe their children, all bpt. at St Mewan were:
John 1798,Henry 1800,Mary Ann 1802,Jenny 1804,Loveday 1807,William 1810,Richard 1812,Maria 1815 d5 Jan 1821 aged 6,Rebecca 1818.
My ggrandfather John Hammer Harry,s/o Nicholas and Jane came to Australia.
I hope this helps.

I saw your post re Clemoes of St. Endellion and think that we may a common ancestor. My g.g.g.g. grandmother was Christian Randall(nee Clemoes) of St. Minver. She is mentioned in a Will of 1852 along with a John Clemoes,Burrow Park,Endellion who appears to be her brother. The Will is of Ann Oke(I presume nee Clemoes).

Hi,

Thanks for replying.I am having trouble working out who is who in the Clemoes family.I can't get to the CRO for a while as I live in Australia. It seems like your John, my Christian,James,Nancy and Ann are siblings but I have only found baptisms for John and Christian. It seems that William Clemoes of St. Minver is her father but is John Clemoes(blacksmith) the father to some of the others?.

It would be great if you could send a copy of your tree to me via email if possible.
Do you have any copies of the cornish Clemoes Wills?
There is a book which may mention our Clemoes called Mabinogi an Clem-The story of the children of Clem-have you seen it?

I have asked too many questions so better go

Australian connections aswell ?!  Unfortunatly my tree is on paper , so am unable to e-mail.

Christian Clemoes father was William baptised 3rd February 1761 at Little Petherick.

He married Christian Hicks from St Minver on 30th November 1788  - she was baptised 13th July 1761

William buried at Padstow 30th August 1815
Wife buried at St Endoc

I Visited Cornwall in the summer & cleaned John & Anna "s Grave at St Endellion

Thank you for informing me about the previous generation. My connection to Christian Clemoes( Randall )is through her daughter Mary Randall(Brewer).Mary's daughter Hannah Brewer(my g.g. grandmother) and brothers John,Richard and William emigrated to Australia from the 1840's.Two sisters remained in Cornwall.Hannah married in Cornwall in 1861 just before emigrating. Her husband died soon after arrival and their only child a few months later-very sad.She then married  Walter Paull originally from Cornwall.

Maybe you could get someone to put your family tree on the internet-if you are happy for everyone to view it.
I have looked for William Clemoes and Christian Hicks on I.G.I. and it seems like the parents from both sides had the first names William and Ann.Are these the right parents?.

Hello Simonne,

I have tried using the Parish Registers online which don't have all parishes or all BDMs but I have found a John and William Clemoes born in St. Ervan in the 1730's-father John.Am I on the right track?
