Your amongst the right people Sarah Grin
I had to put my date of birth on a form recently,
instead of putting 19?? ,I put 18??,
no wonder the person looked at me strange, Huh
you will get used to the odd looks now and then

The best one for me is when I hear someones surname,
I often think, that would be interesting to research. Sad

Hey Sarah, you are most definitely in the right group!!! Welcome aboard!  Do your non-searching friends and family give you the glassy stare when you start glowing about a recent find??  Shocked  Pat

Hi All,
Bennett I am with you about being introduced to new people at a function or something and you like and are captivated by their surname.
Being in Australia, I have, on a couple of occasions asked,

"Do you know what ship your people came on?'

And I am still surprised when they say.

"Why would I want to know that?"

Can't believe it Roll Eyes

Sara,

Join the clan. I was in the boredom stage, and at a funeral recently met some other relatives of my husband.

We had been in contact, on GR and were swapping our stories. Younger family members got involved and now I am researching the family of a distant relative (by marriage) of husband!

Now that is obsession!

The elderly lady who had died had spent years doing "hands on" research and we have benefited from it. So guess I am just carrying on the tradition.

Hello Sue, I am amazed at the number of Yanks who are doing family research, but only until their people came across the pond!  They are missing out on the best part of their roots! Oh, and Spring, I, too, like to help people on their roots quest - just for the fun of it.  Some times they just need a point in the right direction and they're off and running, too!   Cheesy  Pat

Hi Pat,

I think at this  time we have some great links to find our relatives, past and present. it may not last, so some of our younger working families may never have the time or facilities to find their ancestors.

We know FreeBMD had to photograph as much as they could before the records office closed. And the office itself are years( suddenly too costly) behind getting all  records recorded on digital.

Apart from the enjoyment of the hunt, I think it is important to record what  we can, When we can

HI Spring!  Well said, indeed.  I am gathering as many branches, twigs and twiglets on my family tree for posterity. Yes, this is important becuase one never knows what records may be destroyed by persons or an act of Mother Nature.  This is an exciting time to be hunting for those branches of the tree! A rellie of my husband's knew he had incurable cancer and placed his huge family tree on line for all and has left funds for the website to continue to operate!  What a wonderful gesture!  Grin   Pat

Pat,
What  a wonderful thing to do.! For my age group, it is probably especially poignant to leave ,perhaps a lasting memory, for the general populace, apart from our immediate family.

I update my researches to my three children, and the parts of our  (my Husband)s joint tree to all of his  contacts
.Put as many notes of suppositions, guesses etc. so that they can at least know where to look
One does feel that it is one way to leave a legacy to a later generation.

That happens to me quite regularly! I have "done" several friends tree's, my sister-in-laws etc.

This hobby does indeed become obsessive!!
