GODFREY Lookup request please

I am looking for information about William Godfrey of Swimbridge, Landkey, Devon. The census records of 1841, 1851 and 1861 show he was born in Swimbridge, Landkey in 1799. I am trying to find who his parents were and his wife Mary's maiden name. Also where his wife was from. Please can someone help or advise where I should look to find out more. Thanks

u need to look in devon records office plymouth open tues to fri i think theres also one in exeter raa

Hi,

Are they the family in 1841  HO107/234/14  f.3  p.1 with an Elizabeth TAYLOR living at the same address?

If so I wonder if she could have been Mary's sister or sister-in-law as I found this possible marriage on the IGI,

Hello Daisy,
Brilliant - well spotted ! I had come across the IGI marriage of William Godfrey and Mary Taylor as one possibility but hadn't spotted the census address of 1841 having Elizabeth Taylor living with them.  I think there's a good chance it was Taylor. I would like to find Mary Taylor's parents and assume it may have been somewhere in the Landkey area. Problem is there is no further record of the birth of a Mary Taylor in the Landkey area on the IGI - unless she moved there from elsewhere. However I can now look for Elizabeth's birth as well as Mary's birth. Thank you.
