My Dad - Ronald Frederick Lawton

Many thanks for all the help + links, it's proved very fruitful.
After getting a copy of the land grant it turned out to be another Fred but the follow ups to the libraries has produced several whereabouts for him, including admin records for his estate. I'm waiting on this at the mo but hopefully it will show some links to his siblings over here + I'll then be able to follow through with them.
Again many thanks - I appreciate it

I've now got the estate file for Grandpa Fred, it lists his wife, Christina, and two children, Beryl + Ronald(my Dad) as surviving next of kin. Also stated is his Real estate comprising of:

In the Township of Sarnia, in the County of Lambton and being composed of the northerly fifty feet(50') of the southerly one hundred and forty six feet(146') of Lots 17,18 and 19 according to Registered Plan No. 257 for said Township of Sarnia

Any help locating this would be appreciated.

I've also received newspaper obits for him stating:

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs Doris carney, Mrs Alice Bennett, Mrs Nellie Briggs and Mrs Emily Gandy, all resident in England.

I have managed to trace possible marriages for these sisters but have yet to confirm.

Also stated:

Pallbearers were Cecil hales, Alfred A. Wales, John Ferris, John Vossburg, Ross Fitzgibbon and G.H. Trangmar.

I know Cecil Hales was the postmaster of Sarnia P.O. at the time and has now died and have also found burial listing for Alfred Wales but would like to be able to trace the others.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The Lambton Library may be able to help with your queries. They have directories, newspapers and family histories, etc.

HI Deb,

That is the legal description of the property he would have owned.  You would be able to get a copy of the abstract which would show you when he purchased the land/house.

Do you have a copy of his will, cause since he owned property it should be registered on the title.

Lambton has gone electronic now, but it seems the old "registry books" are held at the Lambton County Library in Wyoming Ontario.  You could contact them and they should provide you with a copy of the abstract of title.

Hi Karen
Thanks for replying - I'll try Lambton County Library - he didnt leave a will, but I have a copy of his estate file and that was all the real estate listed - think it may have been some kind of store as he's mentioned as being proprietor.

Thanks for help

Hmm, well there should be Letters of Administration then  Undecided if he didn't have a will, something would have to go on title.

Hopefully the library will be able to tell you something.

I have a copy of the Letters of Administration - sorry misunderstood you - I'm not sure what you mean by 'abstract of title' and 'something would have to go on title'?
Just out of curiosity - I've contacted the Lambton Library several times - will they not get fed up of me?Huh
