Can anyone tell me why an enumerator would keep listing people as place of birth 'British Subject'
Please see 1851 - HO107/2025  Head James Gregory Aged 72 Watchman Residence Jacksdale Row Selston Notts - Birth - British Subject
Two of his sons are also listed British Subject as are their two lodgers
Wife Ann Gregory aged 62 is (I think) from Copenhagen spellt Copenagen - but what does the (N/K)  (W/K) mean ? Undecided

Hiya,

N/K usually stands for 'not known' in the census.  Perhaps the enumerator wrote British Subject because the bit of paper hadn`t been filled in for place of Birth.  On the other hand it could indicate they were born out of Britain but were British Subjects.   However,  this wouldn`t explain the lodgers  Sad

Hey ho,

Hope your village appreciates all the hard work and Aspirin gone into this project. Smiley

Regards,
Mo
