Bit of a long shot....
Ascott House, Wing Does anyone visit this National Trust property. If so do you know if they hold staff records, details from 1880's. I have emailed them a number of times, but no reply. I have checked with the Rothschilds and they do not have the records. One of my relatives was the Gamekeeper in 1881.
Thanks Fred

Are you aware of the following site?
http://www.wing-ops.org.uk/
It certainly contains details of the Dormer family who occupied Ascott House but without knowing your relative's name I can't tell if there is any other information.

Hi Annie ,
Very interesting, how do you find so much information?
Hi David, I have seen that site, and been in touch with the person running it, unfortunately they have no info for me.
I must get to Ascott House in the new year

Hi Annie yes there are some great photos on that site. Unfortunately a lot of the ones for Wing are actuallly Wingrave, must be a not quite right search on the menu selection.
Fortunately I have ancestors from Wingrave as well .

Hi Annie Great picture of the house, if only the gamekeeper was standing outside .
He was Robert Stevens, bapt Jan 1838 in Cheddington, married to Ann Carter, in 1860.
He was Gamekeeper in 1881 census, living with his wife in the Gamekeepers lodge. In 91 he was back to being and Ag. Lab, and in 1901, a Poultry breeder living in the delightfully named Bottom End.
