Did I dream this ?
« on: Wednesday 12 December 07 11:15 GMT (UK) »

I am certain that my mother took me to the Square in Nottingham in the middle of the 50s to see the Queen. I can find a visit by the Queen to Nottingham in 1953 but this would have been too early !

All my Mother (bless her) can remember is that the Agricultural Show was on at Wollaton Hall.

I cannot find out anything about this particular Royal Visit so any help, as always,  gratefully received and acknowledged.

Perhaps this may have been the visit;

'On the 29th June 1949, Princess Elizabeth (later to become Queen Elizabeth II) and her husband The Duke of Edinburgh came to Mansfield to lay the foundation stone at the Portland Training College. The following year, on the 24th July 1950, Queen Elizabeth, consort of King George VI, formally opened the College'.

The royal group may have visited Woolaton hall as well on the same visit.

There was also a visit in 1955;

'The 1955 Royal Show was also situated within the grounds of Wollaton Park -'

hope that helps

Many many thanks for that, 1955 is the one.
