Good evening,
I'm trying to track down the birth/baptism of Richard YOUNG b. Eastbury, Berks, who appears in the 1861 Census aged 22, occupation coachman.
Also in the Census is his wife Eliza, aged 22, daughter of Ambrose HEDGES and Lucy HEAVENS, born in Faringdon 4thQ 1837.
They had a baby son, George, of 3 months in the 1861 Census.
They lived in Lambeth, Surrey.
I'm also looking for their marriage, which I haven't been able to locate either in freeBmd, IGI Batch Numbers or familysearch.
Can anyone help please ?!

Thank you both. You've done it again !
As you seem to have access to the Faringdon PR transcripts, would you by any chance be able to find baptisms for the other children of Ambrose & Lucy HEDGES as follows:
- Caroline, b.1828 -Ambrose b. 1830 (I think he died in infancy) -Lucy, b.1832 - James, b.1834 George b. 1836 -Ambrose Angel b. 1840 - Edwin b. 1843 - Mary Ann b. 1846 - Ellen b. 1848 - Alfred b. 1851
This would be of enormous help !
Many thanks again,
Nick

Ian, you've already been of immense help, but I have a feeling that you have access to ressources I don't. So I'm going to take the liberty of asking you one further thing, which has had me stumped for months !
The father of all the tribe for whom you have just provided baptism dates, Ambrose HEDGES b. c1806, has proved to be a brickwall.
For clarity I call him Ambrose The Elder, to distinguish him from his 2 sons called Ambrose, born in 1830 and 1840.
The problem is that I have tried everything I can think of to find a trace of the birth and/or baptism of Ambrose the father, to no avail so far.
He figures in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses aged respectively 35, 45, and 55, recorded as being born in Faringdon.
He married in Faringdon - 08.09.1827 - with Lucy HEAVENS. They are both recorded as being "of this parish", although I know that this does not necessarily mean he was born there, but lived there at the time of the marriage.
He worked and lived in Faringdon all his life as a tailor, and expired in Faringdon in the 4thQ 1862 aged, apparently, 56.
I have exhausted all the classic research routes (Batch Numbers, familysearch etc) and have had the Berkshire Records Office in Reading do a check on the original Faringdon Parish Records (which they say they have) from 1798 to 1812 inclusive, only to be told he does not figure there. They suggested I try all the surrounding parishes, but with no guarantee of success.
To try to find some clue as to his family - and therefore the names of his parents - I have collated all the Hedges I could find in Faringdon back to the mid-1700's. There appear to be 3 families:
John HEDGES & Margaret GILES, married 28.10.1795. They have a daughter called Maria Hedges (b. 1808 - the only Maria I could find) who was probably the Maria Hedges, witness at Ambrose's wedding. She could have been his sister........or maybe a cousin ?
William HEDGES & Ann HUMPHREYS married 18.02.1788. I have it from another source that the name of Ambrose was used quite frequently in the HUMPHREYS family, but haven't been able to check this out. Now Ambrose is not a particularly common first name, and should facilitate things to a degree.
Edmund HEDGES (1782 - 1842) & Elizabeth CLARK. Edmund was a tailor by profession, .....as was Ambrose. It is often the case that the profession passes from father to son, although again this is no proof.
If you or anyone else could shed some light on this, I would be delighted and extremely grateful !Excuse me for being longwinded, but I had to get down all I could in the hope that someone might be able to help.
Thanks,
Nick

Good morning again Ian,
Yes, you're spot on - this is my lot ! For info, John HEAVENS (or HAVENS) was indeed married twice, and fathered a total of 16 children, 7 with Elizabeth TILLING (I had found STILLING) and 9 with Patience PIKE !
Some of the info I already had - and you've been able to confirm thank you - and other titbits (such as the marriage witnesses, for example) I didn't have, and are very gratefully received !
Interesting that Edmund HEDGES was a witness at Angel HEAVENS's wedding. I'm beginning to wonder if it wasn't HIS son, Ambrose, (the one whose dob I'm hunting for) who married Lucy HEAVENS later on in 1827. Edmund was a tailor, as Ambrose was to become.
Again, many many thanks for your time and trouble.
Nick
