Hi, I am trying to trace the parents of James Redfern b 1885 in Radford, Nottingham,

His mother, I believe, was Hannah Hyson who was married at the time to Joseph Riley ( unless he had died ), but cannot find where the Redfern connection is.
Please help

Hi Brian,

Can't see any sign of the name Redfern in the family so far!

Hannah Riley married William Adams Dec 1892 Nottingham 7b 453
and in 1901 census James is living with them

In 1891 James is living with grandparents Charles & Mary Plank,  Hannah's mother Mary Hyson married Charles Plank 1872

In 1881 and 1891 Hannah is living with Joseph Riley

Hannah Hyson married Joseph Riley 1878 June Qu Radford 7b 261

Hannah's parents Mary Oswin/or Penney married Enoch Hyson 1856 Sept Qu Radford 7b 206
Maybe if you got that marriage cert you might find one of their parents was a Redfern

I think you need to get James Redfern's birth certificate, as he seems to have been born while his mother Hannah was married to James Riley.  This looks like his birth registration:

March Qu 1885 Nottingham 7b 312
