1841/1851 Census Lookup
« on: Thursday 13 December 07 16:15 GMT (UK) »

Hi! Can anyone find James Lovekin for me please on either of these censuses? He was born around 1766. He lived in Sandbach. His wife Ellen died in 1833 & was buried at Sandbach. Thanks, Jayson

Hi Jayson,

Can't see anything obvious in either 1841 or 1851 - do you know where and when he died?

Hi Jean! I don't even know when he died, I searched the Sandbach burial register 1813-1852 but found no mention of him so am a bit stuck as to what to do next. There was no sign of him on the Cheshire BMD either. Jason Cry Undecided

Hi Jayson
I searched the NBI for you, but couldn't find him, although there are quite a few Lovekin's in Barthomley (St. Bertoline) and one or two in St. Phillip, Kelsall.  None, not even Ellen, in Sandbach, so obviously not put on NBI.

I couldn't find anything about him i.e. Birth or marriage.  Where did you find his marriage?  Does it say what he did for an occupation on the Parish Register?

I've also checked the 1841 Sandbach area and not found him, and the writing was pretty good on the 1841 for a change  Cheesy

I'll keep looking for you.

Hi Su

Thanks for your help with this.  James is certainly proving defiantly elusive.

James married Ellen Large in Barthomley on the 8 March 1791.  He was described as 25 year old bachelor & labourer.  He turns up again eight years later in Sandbach & had baptised there: Mary, 1799, Ellen 1801 & my ancestor Elizabeth who was born in 1810.  There seem to be quite a few gaps which might have had something to do with his occupation.  I found a burial - but no baptism - for a John Lovekin in Sandbach which I believe might have been James's son as his age at death ties in with the year James married.

I have a transcript of the Barthomley parish registers & noticed a Thomas Lovekin having children baptised there, but his abode was given as Crewe so perhaps I need to check the Coppenhall parish registers.  There were also Lovekins in Wybunbury in the early 1700s.

I thought this line would be really easy as Lovekin isn't a common surname.  That'll teach me!

Best wishes & a Merry Christmas

Hi,

I found this death,

James LOVEKIN    Jun Q 1840    Newcastle Under Lyme    v.17  p.63

I think Newcastle Under Lyme is about 11 miles from Sandbach so maybe a possibility Undecided
