Bastow family, 1901 Census please. COMPLETE WITH MANY THANKS TO DS
« on: Thursday 13 December 07 20:39 GMT (UK) »

Hello

I am trying to find the parents of :-
Clara Bastow (bn. abt 1890), Florence Bastow (bn. abt 1896), Ethel Bastow (bn. abt. 1898) and Louis Bastow (bn. abt. 1900).

Probably somewhere in the West Riding, maybe the Pontefract area but not sure on that one.  A later childs marriage was registered in Tadcaster.

Sorry a bit vague but hope that somebody can come up with the parents.

Many thanks

Bob

Possible Marriage Registration

1891 Tadcaster JFM quarter 9c 1053

William Bastow
Jane Hannah Jaques

On the 1891 census they are boarding with a Green Family at 4a Back Bank Street, Castleford. William is shown as 19 and Jane H as 22 (birth places are the same as in 1901). Pontefract RG12/3764 Folio 16 Page 25

You can see William Bastow (born 1873 Allerton Bywater) with his parents Abraham and Ann and some siblings on the 1881 census free of charge on http://www.familysearch.org/

You can also see Jane H Jaques (born 1870 Heckmonwike) with parents George and Rachel and some siblings on the 1881 census on the same site.

However I think that Rachel is her Stepmother since on the 1871 census her parents are shown as George and Ann.

I cannot find a Clara Bastow born in Yorkshire between 1888 and 1896 who is not shown as a daughter in a completely different family. Are you certain that she was a sister of the other three that you named ?

Here is a bit of clarification regarding Jane Hannah's parents....

Probable Marriage Registration

1869 Dewsbury AMJ quarter 9b 636

Ann Bousfield
George Jaques

Based upon the 1901 census shown above (seven year old daughter) I would suggest that this might be a certainty. Ann would be the mother of Jane Hannah but it looks like she died when Jane Hannah was only two years old.

Possible Death Registration

1872 Dewsbury OND quarter 9b 131

Ann Jaques Aged 26

......George then re married.....

Possible Marriage Registration

1873 Dewsbury AMJ quarter 9b 935

George Jaques
Rachel Ledgard

Based on the 1891 census (where they have a son called John Ledgard Jaques) I would suggest that this is also a certainty.

On the 1881 census entry Rachel's age is shown incorrectly as 38 (born 1843). On other census entries she is shown as being born in 1853.

I hope that some of this helps (rather than confuse) Grin

If you need anything else please let us know.

Best wishes
