Hi my mum worked in Bromsgrove at a school for physically handicapped children I have tried to Google for information and keep getting Chadsgrove School. There is no early history given and it says it is purpose built which implies "modern" Does any one know anything about a boarding school for physically impaired children in Bromsgrove at the start of the 2nd world war please? Trees
Thank you for your interest GRWL. Googling shows Barnsley Hall as a military hospital and the one I want was definitely a Hospital/special school for physically handicapped children I'll try to find out if Barnsley Hall was ever a school it mayhave been taken over for the care of returning soldiers, after all their physical needs would have been very similar to those the early war children would have required. Its worth a look many thanks Trees
Thanks Jim1212, so that can be struck off the list . Back to square one its Physically handicapped children not mentally handicapped that I'm looking for Trees
Hi Jim1212 Do you know anything about a place called Careless or Carelys green? If so how near to Hagley is it What conected evesham with Hagley between 1861 and 1871 I'm curious to know why a family seem to go from Hampton Poyle Oxford 1853 to Evesham1860 Stone 1864, careless Green 1868, Hagley 1871 then old Swinford 1783 Were they following a road, canal or railway? Any ideas? Trees
Careless Green is the name of a road in the Stourbridge area, about 4 miles from Hagley, I don't have any idea of a link between Evesham and Hagley unless it was to do with occupations.
Thanks for that so not a place just a Road Strangeeliza gives it as her place of birth on a census not usual to be so precise how would Areley Kings fit into the pattern I wonder they get there in 1881 of course I meant 1873 for Old swinford in the last post Trees
Thanks Jim It looks like they stayed in a fairly close area once they got to Worcestershire the mystery still remains though Why did they chose the various stopping points? are well they aren't around to answer so I'll go and chase up another line for a bit Trees
Many thanks Yegvard email on its way to the Bromsgrove FHS as we speak as apart from this mysterious school I also have ancestors from Bromsgrove on a different line Trees
Found it with the help of Bromsgrove library. Forelands Open-air school for cripples was at Rock Hill, in Bromsgrove for the treatment of children with tubercular bone disease. It opened 1919 and closed in 1967 Thank you everyone for helping Trees
