William Bishop and Elizabeth Weaver- CLOSED
« on: Saturday 15 December 07 04:12 GMT (UK) »

I'm looking for info on their son Thomas. Who he married, where he lived after marrying, etc. I'm trying to find out if he is my Thomas Bishop. My Thomas, according to census' was from Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire, except for one census where it was written Hopton (Wafers), Shropshire, England. And this is where William and Elizabeths son Thomas was born, with one exception, mine was figued to have been born in 1811, their thomas is down for 1809. But back in those days, not everyone knew exactly how old or when they were born. My Thomas also married an Elizabeth Wood in 1841 at Holy Trinity Church in Wordsley, Worcestershire. They lived in Cradley, Worcestershire and had children by the names of James, Thomas, Elizabeth, Sarah, Ellen and Philip. Any help would be appreciated.

What does your Thomas give as his fathers name and occupation on his marriage cert?

Does this tie up with what you know of the 'other' Thomas?

Have yuo looked on the censuses for the 'other' Thomas - if he consisatntly doesnt exist that is more evidence that they are the same person. If however, you can trace him on a census aswell as your Thomas, then that is proof there are two separate people with the same name born within a few years of each other in he same area.

I don't know what Thomas' father' name is. I don't have a cert of his marriage. I am waiting on a response from someone who is willing to do a look-up at the Dudley Archives. All someone could tell me, that on the 1841 census, was that thomas was married, he married in the June quarter of 1841, and was living in Worcestershire. I was not told what Thomas' occupation was in the 1841 census. But in the 1851 census Thomas was a Labourer at Iron Works. Too I was told that his parents probably were a James and mary Bishop. Because 1) his first born son was named James and 2) there was found on the LDS site a Baptisim for a THomas Bishop, in Cleobury Mortimer for the year 1817 and the parents were a James and Mary. My Thomas was b. between 1811-1815. But nothing can be found on this James and Mary Bishop. No proof of their exitance other than the son; baptisim. Though on the BMD site there are listings of deaths for a James and Mary for Cleobury Mortimer. But there was a big Bishop family that was in and around Cleobury Mortimer.  Nothing on my Thomas to connect to this family. But yesterday I found that William Bishop, son of Francis Bishop and Suzanne (Cook?) had a son named Thomas. Born not in Cleobury but Hopton Wafers. One one of the census' for my THomas it is written Hopton Wafers as place of birth. Talk of being confused now. Only thing with this other Thomas, his birth and Christening is in 1809. Thinking back on what i was told about UK census, about the ages listed were upped by 5 years(?) in those days and that a lot of people did not always know their exact ages or birth date....that' why I put in a look-up request for my Thomas' marriage cert. But, too i thought i'd see if anyone had, or could look-up info on the other Thomas Bishop. Someone did try to look-up census' on Thomas Bishop'. Apparantly there a quite a few. They were unable to continue. I don't have access to look-up sites that require payments. I recently disabled and can't afford to.
