Yes I have his death certificate, George is my grandfather.
He was C of E and I know where he died, but he was not buried in a council cemetary.  His wife was buried at St Mathews' Church, Chadderton, but the vicar says he does not have the burial details Shocked

Hi,

Have you tried the local paper, it could be under the Internments section. Only a thought, I have found one or two of my familys resting places that way.

Is it possible that your grandfather WAS in the same grave as his wife?  I have found that when burial books are"lost" by churches they are not able to give burials or grave sites.  Just a thought.

Hi

Just a thought, have you checked with the County Archive Service to see if the burial registers have been lodged with them for safe keeping

Happy Hunting

I thought that might be the case, there are quite a lot of Beaumonts (Sarah's family) buried there, so it seems likely  George is there too.

I haven't tried the County Archive Services but after the break I will have to try them

The Lancashire Records Office at Preston hold all the records for Lancashire towns and they  would have details of where the registers are for St Mathews in Oldham.

The Lancashire and the Cheshire Records Offices are my first port of call in queries.  The Lancashire one in Preston has onver 10 miles of shelves full of documents and records a lot of them going back over 900 years.

I do not know why people don't go there or contact them.

Its a wonderful magical place.
