Electoral Rolls
« on: Sunday 09 December 07 22:33 GMT (UK) »

Hi ...

My first posting on the Lincolnshire board (I normally "reside" over in Oxfordshire!) ... and I wonder if anyone can tell me if it's possible to search the electoral rolls for the 1920s for Cleethorpes/Grimsby?

Any advice/help greatly appreciated.

Pennie,

Your best bet would be to contact John Wilson at the North East Lincolnshire Archives - tel 01472 323581 e-mail: archives@nelincs.gov.uk and I am sure they would point you in the right direction.

However, be warned that searching electoral rolls is like looking for a needle in a haystack unless you know the address where you expect to find someone.  They are not indexed by name.  If you tell the archives what you are looking for, they may be able to suggest other sources.

Good luck.

David.

Hi David ...

Many thanks for your reply and the very helpful information.

Having done a little more research since my posting, I have made a little progress and think that I now have a fairly "firm" address - so fingers crossed!
