Hi Joy, Hate to throw a spanner in the works, but: I've been through my Lanchester Baptism Transcriptions and I can't find any MARLEY birth or baptism for John MARLEY or any other MARLEY.
You have also thrown that spanner back at me. I have in my tree, James MARLEY married to Elizabeth FENWICK, but not in Lanchester. It's on the 29th August 1808 at Brancepeth. I was also told that Elizabeth and her siblings baptisms were also shown on both parishes registries. When I checked my Lanchester records they are nowhere to be found.
Elizabeth's father John FENWICK was bapt in Lanchester 8th Sept 1755. The FENWICK'S are an old LANCHESTER family. Elizabeth's father John married Mary EMMERSON of Brancepeth. She was the eldest of eleven children, and the sister in law of his elder brother William, so I would guess that is how they met. It was John's father Henry FENWICK {1718 - 1808} who first went to Brancepeth when he married Jane HODGSON in 1746.
I see Barbara has noted that her reference says she's the daughter of George Fenwick. I want to check this out further. I'd hate to find out I've made a boo boo
I'll send a PM to you
Cheers Geoff

John Marley's baptism is in the Satley register, a chapelry of Lanchester at that time. I don't know if they kept the baptism from Satley in the Lanchester registers or not.
