COMPLETED NEWELL/NEWOLD Cople PR Look-up Please
« on: Monday 17 December 07 17:06 GMT (UK) »

Hi
Still chasing Newells round the county.
I have found these baptisms in Cople which may be the children of George NEWOLD son of George  baptised 20 DEC 1607 in Kempston and Mary unknown.

Ann NEWOLD dau George and Mary 25 AUG 1634
Mary NEWOLD dau George and Mary 03 JAN 1636
George NEWALL son George and Mary 27 MAY 1638
Thomas NEWOLD son of George and Mary 21 MAR 1641

There is precious little other NEWELL/Newold activity in Cople at this time,
this baptism which strengthens the Kempston link as there are earlier Reynolds there

Reynold NEWALL son of Reynold 20 NOV 1608

and 2 later baptisms

Elizabeth NEWEL 07 APR 1740 and John NEWEL 08 NOV 1741 parents William and Ann

and
2 marriages
Mary NEWALL to Edward Sparke 18 MAR 1655
Elizabeth NEWALL to John Langley 03 DEC 1764

Any extra info on any of these entries would be welcome, though not expected for the earlier entries! Also is there any sign of any Cople burials for NEWELL/NEWOLD please ( particularly George and Mary) ?

Thank you
Jan Smiley

Nothing on any of the baptisms other than 1741 where William is described as collarmaker

The first marriage was 18 Mar 1655/6. A Sparks marriage a year earlier gave the birthplace as Ickwell in Northill. John Langley was of Willington

Burials a bit later

That was quick David!
Thanks for the extra bits.
Jan Smiley

And thanks for the burials. So next puzzle where did George and Mary die? I had a feeling they didn't stay put in Cople.

How about the George in Clifton in 1678 and there's also a Mary in Sutton on 24 July 1668, but I'm dubious about all this village hopping

Hi David
I'm dubious too David!

The George who died 1678 in Clifton I'm thinking is most likely to be the George son of Ralph baptised Clifton 1609 and most likely father of the George junior buried Clifton 1668 - presumably the one baptised Clifton 1638 who married Elizabeth Arnell. That at least keeps them in the same village!

I'm wondering if the Mary buried Sutton 1668 is the daughter of George and Elizabeth baptised Sutton 1666 - I can't see a marriage for her.
Come to think of it I don't know what became of Martha baptised Edworth 1661 parents George and Elizabeth (possibly the same ones as have children in Sutton and married in Clifton 1658)

Proving any of this is going to be a problem - I'm hoping there might be some wills.

Thanks as ever for your interest

Jan

If you google Bedfordshire Archives and go to 'search' you may find some background info - just enter 'New' - as I think that name was also sometimes spelt as NEWALL too?

I had a quick look and could not see anything relevant to your research [?] but there may be more - and it is worth keeping in mind for 2008 as their site is growing daily it seems.

All the best & good luck with your research Smiley

Hi Cathy
Yes always worth revisiting Blars from time to time - I have picked up a few bits from there but nothing that helps with my pre Wrestlingworth quest for Newells (numerous variants).  Sad
Thanks for your interest.
Have a good Christmas

Well, Jan,

It is always worth mentioning Bedfordshire Archives [for others who don't know] as I don't think other county archives have their own search sites as a general rule - for research outside of the Beds County one needs to go to ''A2A" site - which is fairly infomative too Smiley  and is worth consulting too in case Beds Archives have not yet recorded it...

And outside of Beds - they don't seem to have their 19th C criminals listed on gaol sites either as we do!  And while I am congratulating Beds - we have our 1891 Census records up to date too!  In 1908, I think the 1861/71 census will be added which will be a great help for researchers...

Many thanks to all the volunteers who have put the info online  Smiley

You make Bedfordshire a great place to come from  Wink

Hello Jan,

I can confirm that the Sutton burial on 24 July 1668 is Mary daughter of George & Elizabeth Newold / Newall
