He is not listed in the 1827 Directory, nor is he listed in "Building Ships on the North East Coast c1640-1914" There were many shipbuilders on the Wear at this time. There were 29 in 1818, and in all some 50 names of ship buildrs appear on the Custom House Register during 1815-1820, between 1823 and 1825 the number doubled, fell to 28 in 1826 then increased to 42 1830-1832. Many were single vessel builders.
That sounds like an interesting book Stan, (if it is a book) would there be a Joseph Devey named in there, please? He is on the census as being a boat builder in 1841.
