Presbyterianism was the official form of worship in parish churches with Anglican clergy either conforming or being replaced by puritan ministers during the Commonwealth period in England ... ie between 1649 to 1660. There's a good article "The Presbyterian Church in Devon" written by John Pritchard on 10th February 1999 on the GENUKI website. There were congregations in the Exeter and Plymouth area. Congretations started in Devonshire in the second half of the 1600s but by 1837 only a few remained.
