Does anybody here have access to the parish records of St Mary, Lawford?
I'm trying to find the parents of the following children, who (through later links between their families) I believe to be siblings:
Adam Harvey SCOTT b abt 1799 Hannah SCOTT b abt 1804 William SCOTT b abt 1808
and possibly also
Joseph SCOTT b abt 1813 Henry SCOTT dates unknown
All are pretty consistent about their places of birth being Lawford, although Hannah says Lambourne in one census.
Their mother may or may not have been a Ellen/Eleanor, who appears in 1841/1851 - birthplace in 1851 given as "Cobdock" (Copdock), Suffolk.
Any help with this family would be much appreciated, as would any info on additional children I don't know about. I have census, marriage etc details for all the children named above except Henry.
Many thanks
Anna

Hi Anna
The Baptismal Records for St. Mary's, Lawford are held on microfiche at the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford. I often trawl through them as I have family originating from Lawford (Aylward & Frostrick) and on the whole they are very legible BUT the Baptismal Records for the early 1800s are NOT. From memory they do become clearer as you look past 1810 so it maybe possible to find Joseph and Henry.
The marriage records are clearer for the same period so it may be possible to look for a SCOTT marrying an Ellen/Eleanor.
Do you live local enough to visit the ERO yourself? If not when I next go I'll make a note of your interest and have a look for you.
Regards - Deborah

Deborah, many thanks indeed for your reply. I'm glad to hear that at least some of the records are legible!
The chances of my getting to Essex RO are remote, so I'd be most grateful if you'd have a look if you get an opportunity. Thank you for that very kind offer.
Anna

Hi Anna
I will look for you when I go, however, you may care to visit this site:-
www.bmdregisters.co.uk
It is a new site run by the National Archives. It has transcribed many non-conformists records i.e. those for Quakers, Wesleyans etc.
You can search for free buy need to buy credits to view any searches you think likely to be of use to your tree. I had a quick look and found:-
Hannah Scott baptised 1803 in Essex William Scott baptised 1807 in Essex
These two tie in with your names and dates but ofcourse Scott is a fairly common surnames. There was a Wesleyan Chapel in Manningtree which is very close to Lawford. Not everyone was baptised in the local parish church. It is worth a look as I don't think it is exceptionallyexpensive to buy credits.
Let me know if you do take a peek and if they are your 'relatives'. I will ofcourse let you know if I have any success at the ERO.
Regards - Deborah.

Dear Deborah,
I now realise that I never got back to you on this message, for which many apologies. I did go to the BMD registers site as you suggested, but unfortunately Hannah and William Scott (about whom I was very excited, as their dates were pretty much perfect!) were not mine. Never mind, it was worth a try.
I've been lucky enough to make contact with a fellow researcher on the same family, and this morning he has sent me through a wonderful family tree with all the Scott children (there are many more whom I didn't know of, apparently) and a couple of generations further back. So I've got plenty to follow up on which will occupy me for a while.
Thank you for your interest and help, and apologies for leaving you hanging!
Anna
