Sorry - mine were later. He married into the Sweetman/Matthews family and they originally came from Gloucester/Bristol and Plymouth but settled in Claines.

Edward Matthews was a gunsmith in Claines.

My family were Barnett but they lived in Oxford after 1800...there was a samuel barnett who was a baker near |Claines in 1841 . I'll have to look up the marriages...i did get back to 1600's

Claines Church has a nice web site with family stories and history pieces http://www.clainesfriends.org.uk/ We visited several years ago The  Church has its own pub I think the only one built on sacred ground! Built to provide a safe drink for the parishioners
