Hi All,
Bennett I am with you about being introduced to new people at a function or something and you like and are captivated by their surname.
Being in Australia, I have, on a couple of occasions asked,

"Do you know what ship your people came on?'

And I am still surprised when they say.

"Why would I want to know that?"

Can't believe it Roll Eyes
Sue

No comment there Sue other than to say that the name of a ship in a well known rugby song sprang immediately to mind.

Have you all posted Santa a message telling him about the Genealogy books and CDs,
and subscriptions to Genealogy magazines, as well as other items that would help in
your research such as a holiday in Ireland to find those really elusive ancestors?
If you've all been good maybe Santa will grant your wishes Cool

Well - I'm really pleased to hear that other people are also in so deep that when they reach a *stop* on their tree, they go off and do some-one elses!   Cheesy Grin

I've done one for my sister-in-law, and then one for her sister-in-law who saw it and said " pity the children will only have one side...." who could resist a comment like that ?  And then my friend mentioned her grand-mother who had an unusual surname and wondered whether there were many others with that name.....

Obsessive, for sure - my son uses the word addiction - and he's the one who goes glassy-eyed - although he now makes me listen to some tale by saying  "I listen to you about your FH !" and making me feel guilty!

I am amazed at the number of Yanks who are doing family research, but only until their people came across the pond!  They are missing out on the best part of their roots!    Cheesy  Pat

Just defend us Yanks Wink, I know many who are searching well beyond our shores. I myself have research going in England, Alsace, Germany, and have many unanswered queries floating around in Ireland. I cousin-in-law sent me some incredible material from Russia that she did of her (and my husband's) side of the family. I do have a friend who has concentrated mostly on the US, but that is because her family came over so long ago (1700s), that she hasn't gotten far enough back to start looking in Europe. I think some people are just close-minded and set in their ways, no matter where they are from.

As for the obsessibe part, completely on my part, as you can tell by how often I am on here. My birthday gift this year is a subscription to Ancestry. My husband doesn't get it, but if it's what I want...

Obsessed? Moi? No, surely not?

I mean, housework - does it REALLY matter?

Cooking - you're a grown man, surely you can shove something in the microwave?

Dog - just keep your legs crossed a bit longer, I PROMISE we'll go walkies in a minute.....

Obseed? Moi?

Mind you - I did stop to laugh when my daughter pondered the notion that "dead" people sure do seem to keep "multiplying"!
