Susan PLUTTON 1881 census Reading St Mary, Berkshire

Help wanted on a family member Susan PLUTTON  who appears on the 1881 census at St Mary READING employed as a Nurse Dom Servt to the   OGBOURNE family 

Checks on the 1891 & 1901 census reveal no further signs of her anywhere suggesting she may have died perhaps sometime between 1881 & 1891 

Elizabeth SQUIRRELL was also known to be another family member.

Are you certain that the name is "Plutton" and have you found her on any other census?

Looks like she is Pentlow / Pentelow to me back to 1851 ..... but cant see her dying .... theres at least 2 marriages on FreeBMD post 1881 ....

Hi Jen

No' I'm not certain about her surname Plutton and it could be Pentlow but I can only go on the info' given on these census of 1881.

I have found her on the 1871 living in London under Pentlow but nothing after the sighting in St Mary Reading in 1881.

I am now reach a dead end on what might have occurd after 1881 as it states she was ummarried then.

Have you followed up on the marriages - you could make the order conditional on her fathers name from the 1851/61 census ?

Hi

Only one marriage appearence found on Susan in 1864 as a witness to her own brother in 1864.

Its this lack of information after 1881 that's the problem here and only one name to follow up on that of Plutton, whether its the right one or otherwise wrongly entered I'm at a loss to understand what the likely reasons are for this dead end.

It is possible that emmigration place a part in this mystery.

   Hi Deano.....

  Like Newfster I think Susan is a Pentelow. Plutton looks to be a very rough pronounciation of the name and may have been given by one of the other servants in the house and not by Albertina. Everything else about Dean tallies previous to this.

  I wonder if she moved with the family as they do not seem to show up in 1891. So she may have died or married abroad.

The other connection and the niece to Susan, Elizabeth Squirrell died on the 2rd of Jan 1882 at Bath road Reading.

Its possible Susan may have moved abroad and married of cause.

Albertine and her husband were in England in 1901. RG13/2084/ Page 7/ Schedule 46. Looks as if he had been in the Colonial Service in India.
Possibly Albertine  had returned to India between 1881 and 1891, and maybe Susan had gone with her as nursemaid to her daughters.
