Hi
Has anyone out there heard of a George McIntosh bc 1881 near Culloden, he married a Catherine Forbes 1883-1967, in Culloden 1902, after which they emigrated to Hamilton, Ontario where they had 5 children.
It appears that George died in 1916, and Catherine remarried twice, 1st to a Charles Paul, and had a daughter Rubina, and 3rd to my Grand uncle Andrew Cardno 1879-1951.
Andrew born in Fraserburgh, emigrated to Hamilton, Ont in 1910 with his 1st wife Marjory McPherson Barclay from Banffshire.
Love to hear from anyone with knowledge of any of the above people.
Regards
Maureen, enjoying summer down under in New Zealand.

Hello:
I hope these are the correct people you are looking for. The 1911 Ontario, Canada Census shows the following: George McIntosh , wife Catharine, and only 3 children at that time. The children are George (1907), Jessie (1909), and James (1910). His occupation is listed as a Moulder in one of the foundries in Hamilton. They lived on Catharine Street in West Hamilton, which at that time was in Ward 2. There was some confusion about when they emigrated, he said 1902, and she said 1905. Andrew Cardno, wife Marjory, and son Herbert(1908) were lodgers with a family named Barclay, also from Scotland. The address for them was Pine Street, in West Hamilton also, in Ward 3. His occupation was listed as plasterer for a contractor, I think, the writing wasn't very legible for him. I'm not sure of the proximity of the two wards, but they were both in West Hamilton, which is in Wentworth County. Perhaps they knew each other. I think the census said they were all Presp. Something else interesting in that part of the city of Hamilton is that the Freemasons' had their building established there. Perhaps the men belonged to the group. I hope this is helpful, regards Homebody

Hi Homebody
Thank you for the census info, I had some of the details, but you gave me new information.
Marjory Cardno (nee Barclay) and George McIntosh wife, Catherine Forbes, were cousins,
Think that Catherine & George were the 1st to emigrate then followed by the Cardno's. Andrew & Marjory were lodgers I believe with her brother, Alexander Barclay.

Hello again Maureen:
You are entirely welcome, I wish there had been more new information for you. I did go back and look for BMD info., so I'll just pass it on in case there is something new there. George McIntosh, (036834) died Feb. 15th, 1916, mothers maiden name is McFadgen. Cause of death is there if you want it, and he died in Hospital. He is buried in Hamilton Cemetery. At the time of his death, he and Catharine were living at 36 Rosemount Avenue. Catharine married Charles Paul (021975) on April 6, 1917. She was still at the Rosemount address at this time. Charles Paul (037522) died July 18, 1932. He is buried in Woodland Cemetery. Marjory Cardno (038306) died Aug. 29, 1928 at home. They were living at 12 Mountain Avenue at this time. Cause of death was listed. She is buried at Woodland Cemetery. The cut-off dates do not extend to Catharine and Andrews' information. Unlike some of the death notices here, there were several maiden names for the parents, if you want them. My Barra ancestors hardly ever put maiden names on records, made it very difficult to find them. By the way, happy to hear your weather is so good, wish we could say the same. The last 4 days have been around -30C at night factoring in the wind chill. The wind has been very bad at present. Lois

Hi Maureen:
I have a subscription to Ancestry.ca for a few months. Not a lot of information on it but it does have Births 1869-1909, Marriages 1857-1924, and Deaths1869-1934. The 1911 Census is available on the Canadian Government Archives site, although I use my local library site to access it. Perhaps you might try google for the library in Hamilton. I couldn't find anything on Rubina Paul, unfortunately the dates don't work. Charles Pauls' death notice had the following: Parents were George Paul and Helen McPherson, born April 8, 1872, Scotland. He died at St. Peters' Infirmary. He was a sheet metal worker, and I think he emigrated after the 1911 census. Curiously, I found the death notice for Jessie Maxwell McIntosh as Jessie Maxwell Paul (035779). It listed the parents as George McIntosh and Kate Forbes. She died Feb 26, 1927 at 18 years old. She died in hospital from Pneumonia. The Paul family lived at 83 Bellview Avenue at this time, still in Hamilton. I live in Brantford, Ontario which is about 30 kilometer's west of Hamilton. We have a pretty good library site for genealogy. Perhaps you might try googling the Brantford Public Library and follow the directions for genealogy. If I should stumble over any further information for you, I'll be sure to pass it on. Regards: Lois
