You did not know where in Mayo he was born.
So do you now know he was born in Knock.? Undecided

KP, The Knock records don't start until 1868.  There may be the odd one or two from earlier years, but County Mayo has the least records of all the Counties.  You could try ordering up film through LDS - if it's available and search them all.  Believe me, I've been there, visited the area twice and I still cannot locate the family.
Good luck

Ann, I am not trying to be negative.  I know just how hard it is.  There are days when I am climbing walls, but some records were not kept.  Have a look at this website and see if you can 'glean' anything from it.

www.from-ireland.net/mayo/mayorcindex.htm -   Click on Bekan and have a look.

On this particular website, type in Flatley and see if there is anything to help you:      www.rootsweb.com/~irlmayo/records.htm

good luck

Ann, here are the LDS references for ordering film to view re Bekan.  I hope there is an LDS Centre near you.

Film Notes
Note - Location [Film]
Marriages 1832-1843 -  FHL BRITISH Film [ 1279209 Item 13 ]
Baptisms 1832-1843 -  FHL BRITISH Film [ 1279209 Item 14 ]
Marriages 1844-1866 Baptisms 1844-1860 -  FHL BRITISH Film [ 1279209 Item 15 ]
Baptisms 1865-1904 Marriages 1899-1910 -  FHL BRITISH Film [ 1279209 Item 16 ]
Baptisms 1871-1903 Marriages 1871-1897 -  FHL BRITISH Film [ 1279209 Item 17 ]

Also, have you contacted the Catholic Church in Ballyhaunis?  They are closest to Bekan and may hold records.

Ann,

Do not have any info on John Flatley but your messages interested me only because I have found Flatley ancestors from Knock.  Namely Thomas Flatley who married Julia Charles.  One child Patrick Flatley immigrated to Boston Massachusetts mid 1880's.

I hope you find your John and I will be watching your messages for familiar names of my own.

Margie

hello its been a while since i looked at any posts.
well all the info i have gathered to do with my flatleys ie baptism records or cert
it seems that my greatgrandfather used two names john on census and one census was patrick
on my grandfathers birth cert it father john
the marriage cert i have is for patrick to margaret boyle and most of the childrens baptism records say the son or daughter of patrick flatley and margaret boyle
it has been very difficult for me to follow and find what name he was given at birth he was born county mayo in 1836 possible ballyhaunis not 100% sure
i would love to be able to find his origin
would anyone know the address of ballyhunis catholic church i googled but didnt find one
thanks

Ann, you could try this site, but be warned, it's pay to view and you will soon get through the credits!!!  Unfortunately, it will only say Mayo and not the individual areas, but there are plenty of Flatley's and Boyles listed.
