Have found A John Ormaston in the 1851 census, born 1829, Portsmouth, Spithead, but living with wife Elizabeth and brother Robert in Longbenton, Northumberland. Cheers

There are no baptisms in Hampshire for a John Ormston or similar. I wonder if there may be something in military records? Was his father anything to with the military or the navy?
Don't forget, he may have been born in Portsmouth, but his baptism may be recorded elsewhere. And prior to 1837, it is usually baptisms that are recorded.
Hello Nell, yes John could have been bap at Newcastle on Tyne as his brother Robert was born there so says the 1861 census in Longbenton Northld and i never thought of that I don`t know who his father was, its strange though John is up in Northld beside my Ormstons as two sisters on the Atthey family both married Ormston which one was this John and the other was William born Newcastle. I will have a look about on Hugh Wallis genealogy page tomorrow. I do thank you very much for your kind help. Regards Gladys
