Marriage c1851 William Owen & Martha Dykes
« on: Monday 03 January 05 13:41 GMT (UK) »

Can anyone shed any light on a marriage between  William Owen and Martha Dykes, approx. 1851? Probably in the Nantwich area.

I've tried to purchase the certificate, spoken to the registrar in Crewe, but there's nothing in the index for Cheshire.

She gave me an address in Southport which houses indexes for the whole country, but I can't find it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi NEIL

This is a link to an index of all the uk BMD FROM 1837
 https://www.1837online.com

If (there is always a chance they did not) they married then you should find it on this index. It is the same one that the Southport office uses, you can also order certificates online.

hope this helps

Hi! Neil

Although the St. Catherine's Indexes of Births, Marriages and deaths have been recorded from 1837 to the present day, it did not become compulsory to register until 1875, where upon if you did not register you were fined.
So you may find some early marriages, we have to rely on the church records.

I have been looking for one marriage of mind today 1861/2 and have tried various spellings, but like you no luck.
