LOUISA BILES is listed in Free BDM as born 1888 Volume 5a Page 231 in Blandford, Dorset. I found her living with her aunt DORCAS COOPER nee BILES in 1901 at Weymouth.
Could someone help me find out who her parents are: Possible fathers are Charles, Henry, Jesse, Alfred or Eli. I could not find a death for any of these lads but may not have been looking in the right place.

I'm afraid in 1891 she's with the same relatives
5 Cosney Terrace, Wyke Regis, Dorset Geo Cooper Head M 44 Porter Dorset Wey Dorcas Wife M 43 Dorset Milbourne Clara daur S 17 Dressmaker " Weymouth Louisa Byles Niece 3 " Milbourne C Bowerny Lodger W 24 " Weymouth G M Bowery Child 2 " " (female) JOsiah " 7 months " " RG12; Piece: 1648; Folio 34; Page 5
The only certain way of knowing her parents is from the birth certificate.
So we are looking to see which of these possible parents are still living in 1891.

Have you also checked for a death of George? this might be Charles proper name, or is there another child born about the same time as him?

The names mentioned are all brothers to Dorcas Cooper nee Biles. Their father was George Biles. Charles and Jesse migrated to Australia in 1859 and I have not been able to track and of the others so far. Guess I will just have to elevate her to top of my wish list of certificates to order. Many Thanks

Having more thoughts here - Dorcas was the youngest of the family, the eldest being born approx. 1833 and Dorcas approx 1849.
So by the time Louisa was born Dorcas was about 40 and the brothers were older. Have you checked the marriages of each of them? it would seem to me that you would need to find one with a wife a few years younger than the husband, alternatively she could be a great niece of Dorcas....

Well that saves searching for them then. I think George senior might have been married twice, and his father might be Benjamin.

I knew fresh eyes on this brick wall would help. But should have known better than to take what was written "niece" as gospel.
Another lady and I have been trying to establish how we are connected so if I can prove George is the son of Benjamen then that may be the connection.
Where would I go to get a birth certificate for George, seeing as it's 1802, I also have found a possible death for a George in 1888 at the right age so guess I may have to get that certificate first.

There are no birth certificates prior to 1837 when civil registration began. It's Parish Registers that you will need to check.
The IGI gives a baptism for George Biles 18 January 1802 Milborne-St Andrew, Dorset, which would appear to fit, but the entry just gives the mother's name - Elizabeth Biles. This usually means that the child might be illegitimate. It would be worth your while checking the film for this parish at your local LDS centre and see if any comments have been noted by the clerk when writing up the register.
You can also find the birth of Amelia 05 March 1828 Melcombe-Regis parents Benjamin and Frances, these would appear to be the family living next door to George, Mary and family in 1841.
There is also a marriage for Benjamin Biles to an Elizabeth Newman 28 November 1811 Cranborne, Dorset. I'm wondering if this was a first wife to Benjamin and Frances was a second, there is a ten year age gap which might be a clue.

Hi Meb14au,
Have you looked at www.dorset-opc.com? A variety of data there; baptisms, marriages, burials, census, militia, etc.
There is a contact for Milborne St. Andrew who appears to have access to baptisms, marriages and burials.
Also for Melcombe Regis; not quite as much info for Cranborne.
