Hello

I am helping a work colleague start off with her new year resolution to trace her family and am introducing her to Rootschat for the first time by finding her first link for her.

She is looking for the following family [may be living at Frederick Street Portsmouth] but is not sure how many of the children will be included with the parents?
The family is:
Charles Harvey Head [possibly a dock worker] no idea of his age or birthplace
Wife may be called Mary [sorry thats all she knows]
Children possibly born by this date with the names of Charles, Edith, Violet and May
Another child named James [possibly by the wifes previous marriage]

I hope someone will be able to help

They are living at 3 Bishops Court, Portsmouth and Charles is a Dockyard Labourer.

There is a marriage in Portsea Q1. 1895 for Charles George Harvey and Mary Ann Lloyd. Gro: 2b. 731

There are birth registrations for
Violet Rosina Harvey Q1. 1897
Edith Harvey Q1. 1898
Victoria May Harvey Q3. 1899
all Portsea.

I realise there is no Charles and no stepson James!

There is no son James with Mary in 1891 but she is married to a James

There were two Charles Harvey's born Portsea 1895:

Charles Q3. 1895
Charles William J Q4. 1895

In 1901 the first is living with his parents, and Charles W J is living with his step-grand-parents (I think - it's a bit muddled)

If Charles George's mother was Esther - remarried to Abraham Ventham - this might be the son Charles you mentioned.

Then again - in 1871 Charles G Harvey b. 1866 Portsea is living with his parents Henry and Sophia - so probably not the same Harveys!

Hi Tazzie, Hi Mary

This looks like a good potential fit. My friend [Wendy] has very little clear family information but did think that the wife previous name was 'something like Lockley' - well that could be Lloyd! as we all know how things get changed over the years.
She knows her grandfather [another sibling] was born in 1903 [Arthur Reuben Harvey] and we have found him in freebmd.
Her history of his sisters called May could be Victoria M, the Edith and the Violet are there also. She also heard that the wife had ben married before which fits with the stepchild, except he is now a she... and the link to the name James could very well be the first husband

Wendy is going to be so pleased with this start, I have to get her to join herself now and start getting all the fantastic help I had

However - there was a Charles Henry Harvey registered Portsmouth Q3. 1901 - and maybe that is he, named after father and grand-father?

Thanks Little Nell for the death reg of Mary Anns first husband in 1893; I have now found the marriage reg of Mary Ann Lloyd to Charles Ceorge Harvey in March quarter 1895 Portsea 2b 731.

Tazzie, looks like Wendys vague family memories weren't so far off after all - seems her maiden name was a near fit to Lockley after all!!!!
