North Witchford Cemeteries?
« on: Monday 31 December 07 12:38 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to trace where my Great Grandfather might be buried. His name was George Parfrey. On the 1901 Census he was living in Rings End. He died in the September quarter of 1907 in the North Witchford district according to FreeBMD.

Does anyone know of the possible churchyards he might be buried?  I`ve checked Guyhirn already with no joy. I`ve also tried North Witchford Church near Ely. Are there any obvious alternatives I`m missing?

Many thanks Steve

Hi Steve

I suppose he could have been buried at March, which is the closest large town to Rings End. If not there could be Sutton or Ely or even Haddenham.

I am sure I`ve checked the card index at Fenland Museum  Undecided Undecided Undecided.

The only other alternative is to get a death certificate for him although I have one or two other relatives I need to get certificates for first. Thats why I was hoping somebody might tell me I was missing something obvious when I posted on here.

Thanks for your reply though. Steve

Been doing some more research and just found that one of George`s brothers according to the 1901 Census living in the Ecclesiastical Parish of March St John and Registration District of North Witchford. The address is given as Newpark.

Does anyone know if there are any churches in this area? As I might start my search there!

Does Newpark still exist?

Many thanks Steve

Hi Ricky,

Thanks for your continued interest.

Looks like Newpark to me but I am open to correction Smiley Have a look Ricky and see what you think Undecided

The reference number is RG 13/1551 page 11 for Thomas Parfery age 33 married to Ruth (Leverington) aged 31 and two children.

Hi Steve,

found New Park.
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|march%20cambs#t=l&map=52.56114,0.08333|15|4&loc=GB:52.55:0.08333:14|march%20cambs|March,%20County%20of%20Cambridgeshire

If you look to the right of the B1101 it is there, not far from the railway station.

Since my last post I have obtained a duplicate death cetificate for George Parfery. He died 29.09.1907 at Westmoor Farm, Doddington near Chatteris.

I have recently visited the CRO to check the North Witchford area registers, this included Doddington, Chatteris, March, March St Peter, March St Mary, Wimblington,Manea and Benwick all without success. Sad Sad

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what my next move should be Undecided Undecided Undecided

Many thanks in advance for any offers of help or advice.
