Information requested on the Cheer family of Manchester
« on: Monday 03 January 05 16:00 UTC (UK) »

I wonder if anyone has come across the name CHEER in census or directories?  I have a Martha Cheer marrying my gt gt gdad Robert Wallwork at Mcr Cathedral in 1845.  Living in Chorlton on Medlock at the time.

This is such an unusual name and I don't seem to be able to trace them through the ususal internet channels.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry for delay in replying.

This bit of info came from a newspaper cutting found amongst a recently deceased aunts belongings. There is no date or reference to a News title.
I copied the text word for word.

However................

My ancestors 'Enions & Cheethams, lived in what was Chorlton district of Manchester. Although its now known as Levenshulme/Longsight district of Manchester.
There is obviously a direct connection with a 'Cheer' family as apart from the Mrs Enion listed as the first mourner, the Cheer name preceeds Arthurs elder sister- Clara Enion ....  poss Mr & Mrs Cheer being the in laws.

Going through the list of mourners:-

Mrs. Walker could possibily have been Arthurs Sister... Amy Enion....She married William Wallace Walker.
Mr & Mrs F Enion are prob....Arthurs brother Fred and his wife.....??
Mr. & Mrs. Cheetham are I think my grandparents....(Jessie Enion (sister) & Albert Henry Cheetham).....My Grandfather Albert may also have organised the funeral as he was an undertaker.
Mrs O'Connor is Edith Enion and O'Connor was her married name.
Lucy is another Enion and she married Peter Cave.

Arthur Enion was born 30th Oct 1878 and died 8th Sept 1936, his remains are interred at Willow Grove Cemetary which I think is in Ardwick, Manchester.

I don't have too much info on the Enion family apart from their dob 's and deaths
from a flyleaf of an old bible from Clara Enion's belongings...she was Arthurs elder sister. (She died around 1960 and my aunt kept the bible upon sorting out her estate).

I think it seems very probable at this stage that Arthur Enion married Huh??Cheer.
but the above is the only info I have.

I do have a photo of Amy Enions wedding and all the family (Enions) are present,
but there are bods as yet unidentified so maybe Arthurs wife is on the pic.
I can email you a copy if needs be and maybe we can work out who is who.
(send me a PM if you would like a copy)

Don't know whether this helps you or not but if you confirm a connection
then I would appreciate any further info you feel you can share.

Thanks,

Skip
