Redcar death
« on: Tuesday 01 January 08 15:07 GMT (UK) »

Hi

Happy New Year.

If someone died at Redcar in 1970 where would they most likely to be buried?

I've tried Redcar cemetery & also Teesside Crem but he's not at either of those.  His death was also not in the Evening Gazette.

Cheers

Hi Jay,

Happy New Year,

Would you like to post name & date of birth/death if known?
Have you looked in the Teesside index? http://www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/search.php

If you know the date of death, the cemeteries office is very helpful:
Cemeteries Office    (01287) 635426

Hi Barbara

I have a copy of his death certificate.

He died in March 1970, Richard Gash.

Redcar cemetery tell me he isn't buried their.  Neither is anyone else with the surname Gash.  Middlesbrough tell me he wasn't cremated at Teesside.

Do you know if they is another paper that would cover Redcar death notices.

Middlesbrough library checked the Evening Gazette & couldn't find anything for him.

I don't know where I should look next.

Cheers

Was he living in Redcar when he died?  Very odd if Redcar cemeteries office can't help.  Perhaps his family took him to be buried elsewhere.

Evening Gazette would be the main choice for Redcar people, possibly the Northern Echo which is more for Stockton/Darlington area really, so is the Darlington & Stockton times.

Not sure if he would have been buried at one of the churches instead of the cemetery,  St. Peter's Church or Christ Church Coatham.  Or even Marske...

Hi Barbara

He did live at Redcar when he died.

I try the other places you mention.

Do you think the cemetery office could do a search on the name rather than a particular place?

I've only used them twice & given them the person's name & the cemetery.

Cheers

I would ask them, according to nutty they're very helpful, but I would have asked for a name search not a cemetery search as you never know where they'll be.

Incidentally, I thought I'd ask for a search in Bishop Auckland cemetery, and they charge £11 for a search, marking the grave and sending a plan.  Don't tell Redcar!

Wear Valley cemetery department aren't great.

I've managed to get basic information from them without paying.

Bishop cemetery is quite big & not on one level, there's a beck they runs through it too.  It's flat, down a bank, the beck, up the bank then flat again.  lol  I've only been once but managed to find quite a few of mine.

If you want to tell me who your looking for i'm happy to check, once the weather improves.

I'll email the cemetery office again for Richard but just give his name.  See what they say.

Cheers

Oh that's much better if it is.  Though that still has the same beck through it!

What's there name.

I was there not so long ago, it's not that big.  I've still got the photo's on the camera.  I've got photos of graves that aren't mine but have the surname in my tree, you never know I might already have it!

Oh dear, I knew you were going to ask that - long story if you've nothing better to do have a read:  http://www.rootschat.com/links/02g9/

It's Thompson, and I don't know if he's James or Michael, b. 1839/40 , and his wife is definitely Mary Jane b.c1846 their last known address was 34 South Terrace, Bishop Auckland, I've completely lost them in 1871 and he kept changing his first name.  I'm determined to sort him out this year, even if I have to break the bank buying certificates.

For some reason my husband thinks they'll be in South Church cemetery.

I'll have a read later.

Thompson is a name in my tree, from Eldon Lane area.

If they were living in Bishop they could be at the town cemetery, St Andrew's & their extension they opened in 1870's which is over the road or Rosemount Road cemetery which is South Church.

Have just checked my burial transcripts, St. Peters Church only up to 1896, and Christ Church Coatham are up to 1976 but no Gash listed, sorry.
