Oxon places that used to be in Berks. Long Wittenham

Hi, Everyone,
I'm a little confused about where I should be looking for certain details about the POOL(E) family, who for at least 50 years (and probably longer) were in Long Wittenham.  Would records be kept in the Berkshire Record Office or the Oxfordshire Record Office?  And when did Long Wittenham become part of Oxfordshire...?
I have a John POOLE, probably the one baptised 03-07-1814 in Dorchester, Oxon (according to several Censuses).  His parents may well be the Francis POOLE aged 70 and Margaret aged 60 in the 1841 Census in Long Wittenham.  His father is certainly given as Francis on his marriage certificate in 1838 in Long Wittenham.

Keith,

The changes took place in 1974 when the county boundaries were amended.   The Berkshire Records Office has the Wittenham PRs - see here

Harry,
Thanks so much for that.  Looks like I'll be taking to trip to the Berkshire Record Office to study their Transcripts for Long Wittenham some time in the near future, searching for more details on the POOLE faily...

Keith,

If you have lots of Poole ancestors in Long Wittenham, you might be interested to know that it's included in one of the CDs available through Oxfordshire FHS.

There's a baptism there for a Francis Poole on Nov 25 1772, son of John & Ann. This is probably the Francis from the 1841 census.

Jill,
Thanks so much for that information - I don't think that one was included in the IGI batch number I looked at for Long Wittenham, and does indeed fit very nicely with Francis POOLE, aged about 70, in the 1841 Census for the place.
So it's the Oxfordshire FHS that's making it available, rather than the Berks.  I'll have a look on their website to see how much they're asking...

Wow, KN!
A couple ot those may well be husband and wife John and Mary POOLE; the burial age for John exactly fits his 1814 baptism, and I'll check his wife Mary now.
Many thanks,
