Hi folks
Sorry, but in the good ol' days I would have scoured the Ancestry files for these myself, but since they now charge for the privilege I'm scuppered. 
Anyway, could someone please help out here? I'm doing a bit of research for a distant relative. I'm looking for the following ...
- Marriage between ERIC SMITH and GERTRUDE MENNELL in Scarborough, possibly around the mid 1920s
- Subsequent births of children Michael Smith, twins June and Betty (might be Elizabeth), then Brian and Ian, although possibly not in that order; I believe that Michael was the eldest
- The marriage of MICHAEL SMITH to MAVIS POTTAGE probably in the 1950s or early 1960s
My friend is descended from the Pottage connection, whereas my father was a descendent of Gertrude Mennell's aunt, Kate Sutton.

Just to let you know that I certainly CAN'T use Ancestry ... I've just tried searching both the compete and partial records, but can't view any images without stumping up the dosh to join-up.
The partials show marriages for Mennells, but not the one I want.
The one that YOU put up on here - Wicker+Mennell - I already know about but is not the one I want. It's all a bit confusing there - two Mennell brothers married two Sutton sisters; that marriage is of a child from the marriage of the older siblings (Fred Mennell and Sarah Ann Sutton), whereas I'm chasing offspring of the younger siblings, Albert Mennell and Eliza Sutton; Gertrude Mennell was THEIR sixth child.
For what it's worth, all the Gertrudes in the Mennell family were named after the very youngest Sutton sister, Gertrude Mary Sutton (1884-1962).

Oh ... well ... maybe try the Leeds area? I know that Gertie Mennell was born in Bramley, so maybe they moved back there after the 1920s?
Or maybe the other children were born in the late 1930s/early 1940s?
AH!! Just remembered - they emigrated later on, leaving Biff (Michael) behind with his aunties; but I'm sure that the other siblings were born by then.

Lovely!
And in return ...
Been in touch with dad who was a friend of Michael 'Biff' Smith in his youth and can add the following information which MIGHT just be of assistance to you!
- Family lived in Beverley (hence the Hull birth of Brian) before the war
- Ian - no ideas at all, but fairly certain that Michael WAS the oldest
- The twins June and Betty may well have been born about 1931 or 1932
- Family moved out to India round about wartime, leaving Michael alone with his great-aunts in Scarborough
- Michael died around about 2004, possibly in Nuneaton
- Brian died about 1977 in the Wakefield area, of alcohol poisoning
I will see if I can find the 2004 death myself as I think that Ancestry will let me do that bit!
EDIT: No, Ancestry still won't let me verify any dates of birth for Michael Smiths who have died, so I'm stuck again!
