1861 Shropshire Census - Edward William Frederick Acton
« on: Thursday 13 December 07 23:19 GMT (UK) »

Is anyone able to let me know if the 1861 census covering Shropshire shows following family and if there are additional children.  They would likely reside in Bridgnorth:
Head:  Edward William Frederick Acton, b: 9 Jan 1834
Spouse: Helen Maria Parker Ranney, b: 17 Mar 1828
Child: Helen Beatrice Acton, b: 24 Nov 1855

Thank you

I've had a quick look but can't find them. I think at least 4 enumeration districts for Bridgenorth are missing in the 1861 census. In 1851 there were 6 enumeration districts for Bridgenorth. In 1861, only 2 are showing.

The 1861 census has many missing pieces:

and scroll down to the'Click Here' - click and it will list the problems pieces.

Hi,

Do you have the burial details of Captain E.W.F. Acton and his wife?

They have a memorial in Bridgnorth cemetery.

Hello Gwynne

No, I do not have the burial details.  I have a date of death of 25 December 1887 for Helen Maria Acton at Bridgnorth, and I have Captain EWF Acton's line traced back to the early 1700's, but all I have on him personally is a birth date of 9 January 1834 in Bridgnorth.

I'd appreciate anything you'd be willing to provide.

Thank you.

Hi,

I have photographed the memorial for you.

The inscription reads;
"In Loving Memory of E.W.F. Acton formerly a Captain in the 76th Regiment who died at The Leasowes, Tasley. December 30th 1920, aged 86."
On the other face;
"Helen Maria Parker Acton, the beloved wife of Captain Edward William Frederick Acton. Entered into her rest at The Woodlands on Christmas Day 1887"

The Bridgnorth Municipal cemetery burial book provides additional information;
Edward William F Acton, Captain, Late of 76 Regt, age 86 of The Leasows, Morville Road. Buried 3 Jan 1921.
Helen Mariah Acton, wife of Captain E.W.F. Acton, age 57 of Woodlands, Glazeley. Buried 29 Dec 1887.

The grave number is 1957 New Consecrated.

The photograph is here;

This is incredible.  Thank you so much.

I'll also be looking at purchasing a copy of your book after Christmas.  Can you give me a quote on shipping to Canada?

Thanks again.
