Pubs in Eyam
« on: Wednesday 02 January 08 18:21 GMT (UK) »

Hi  - can anyone help me with the residents of a pub in Eyam early in the 1900s?

My Grandfather George Biggins (born 1900 in Sheffield) was taken to live in her  pub by an Aunt.  He recalled that she was a very grand lady and took him from his home in Sheffield in a horse driven carriage lit by torches to her home at the pub in Eyam.   He was about 5ish at the time and was rigged out with new clothes and for ther first time in his life slept in a bed alone!

Sadly I do not know the name of the pub or the Aunt's name or even if there was an Uncle as well.

Grandfather's surname was Biggins and his mothers maiden name was Rusling.

I would appreciate any help anyone could give.

Many thanks

Many thanks for that Suz - I will put these names to the surviving member of the family to see if they ring a bell.

I didn't realise there was that many pubs there!  They must have been very thirsty back then!

Your help is much appreciated

Thanks for that - I might get in touch with the current residents - they may well have some info.

Thank you again for your trouble
