Aghadowey

This is my Maternal grandmother and I am just starting to locate her family from Ireland. She came to the US as a child and I have no information as to where in Ireland she came from. Family rumor is Co Monaghan.

I'd like to find siblings as well.

Thanks

Catherine McCoy's birth certificate will give names of both parents, date and actual place of her birth.
If you had a location (parish if not townland not just county) you could try searching for church records to look for other family members.
You said that Catherine went to US as a child- with her parents? other relatives? Any other details?

Actually the following is the only info I have on the family

Ann B 1876
Catherine B 1877 Ire
Sarah B 1881
Marie  B 1887
Frank ?
John Joseph ?
Willie ?

I would assume At least Ann and Catherine were born in Ireland since Catherine was younger than Ann. No idea if Catherine came here with parents  or by herself.  No place of birth for the rest of them so can't help much there. She could have been in her teens when she came here. Prior to 1890 there aren't much in the way of records and ships manifests aren't indexed.

The parents don't show up in the census records here in the U.S. though my mother said her grandmother lived with them when she was young would be after 1909 as mother was born then.  No mention of Patrick here in the states.
My math says all of the children would have been born in Ireland and Patrick might havd died in Ireland around turn of the century.

Early manifests will probably just give their residence as 'Ireland' which is not much help.
Where did all the children end up in the states? If you trace them in U.S. census records you should be able to find when and where they were all born (if younger children born in US parents must have gone to America also), when (approx) they all arrived in US (perhaps they came separately).

Mary
Thanks for the input. Your guess is as good as any I might have. The date seems to be in line. Name could have been Mary Catherine or Catherine Mary who knows, at least the surnames are right, and til I get others with the same surnames I'll use these as a base to locate further children. I at least have 2 birth dates and names to start with as well as the one you found.
Thanks again for your help.

Mary

I think we mightr have the right family even though the names and dates are different than I originally had.

Obviously there is a lot more to do to prove or disprove the connection but I am at least going in a new direction. I realize that McCoy and Connolly are common names in Ireland but the combination of the two together gives me some hope.

Thanks again for the information

Don- where in U.S. did your Catherine McCoy actually live? Found a Catherine McCoy with parents Patrick and Catherine and siblings in U.S. and if it is your Catherine will perhaps point your research in a different direction.

That's the family I found Mary. Patrick McCoy and Catherine Connolly in Belleville, Essex, N.J. with children: John (1870), William Henry (1872), Julia (1876), Catherine (1878), Sarah (1881), Agnes (1885), Ann (1888).

Aghadowey and Mary

Thats my family. Where did you locate the information?

Apparently someone in our family is also doing research on that branch and I wasn't aware of their interest.

Now I'm at my original question of where Catherine Connolly and Patrick Mc Coy originated from.

I have them both born in Ireland but no location  This apparently does away with Newery as a birthplace.

Thanks again to both of you.
