Looking for a baptism or birth record for Mary Green, born according to census records in Swavesey c1784-6. In 1841 she is listed in Ellington, Hunts, as Mary Fairy age 55 born in county, in 1851 age 65 and in 1861 age 77, place of birth in both 51 and 61 given as Swavesey, Cambs. She was the second wife of William Fairy, whom she married in Ellington in 1811, and she died there in 1865 age 79.
Curiously none of their children have been found so far in baptism records, and it seems possible that she may have returned to her birthplace for their baptisms. Another possibility is that these children, like those from William's first marriage, were presented at a Nonconformist church. The children whose names I know are Mary born c1816, Elizabeth c1818, Rachel c1821 and David c1823. According to census records they were born in Ellington.
If you are able to help, it would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have the Swavesey Cambs Parish Records on Microfiche I have checked for Baptism for Mary Green from 1764 - 1796. There are several Green baptisms but couldn't find one for Mary. Nearest was a Ester Green, Parents James & Mary Green 1779. I also checked on the Parish Records for Willingham and Over , villages near by, you never know. Sorry couldn't be of more help. Regards, Kaysey

Thanks very much Keith and Kaysey.
This lady is a mystery, in fact I wasn't aware of her existence at first, as William Fair(e)y was inconsiderate enough to marry two women called Mary and only the second one appeared in the census records.
The baptisms of their children, too, have eluded me so far. William and the first Mary presented their children at Spaldwick Baptist Church, but I haven't found the second Mary's children there.
Regards, Gill

Gill and Kaysey, Just to let you know that I've just seen Kaysey's post, and that I'm crossing this one off my things-to-look-up list when I get to Shire hall on Tuesday, though if I happen to come across the elusive Mary GREEN in another parish, I'll flag her up for you, Gill! Regards, keith

Gill, Did check for Mary GREEN's baptism in the Swavesey PR's - just in case it had been overlooked on the microfiche. No sign of her, of course, and afraid I didn't stumble across her anywhere else when looking through several parishes during my 3-hour visit to the CCRO today, keith

Thanks very much for your valiant efforts. It seems as though the lady (like the baptisms of her Fairy children) just doesn't want to be found.
Regards,
Gill
