JOHN NUTBEAM
« on: Thursday 03 January 08 13:48 GMT (UK) »

John Nutbeam have a marriage cert (Winchester) John is 21in 1871 so he was born1850. I have a birth cert of one John Nutbeem Winchester 9th jan 1850, father Henry Nutbeem mother Hannah formally Ward. I have John and family on 1871, 188,1 1891, 1901, birthplace given a Winchester except on 1901where it is New Forest! I have checked 1851 and 1861 census's and he does not appear anywhere as far as I can see. These people could have originated in the New Forest lots of Nutbeam's of various spellings most lived on free parochial land (squatters?). Was John born in Winchester and were his parents Henry and Hannah?

Have you seen this "John Nutbeem" in 1861? Fordingbridge is just on the outskirts of the New Forest according to autoroute -

hhmmm, this John is aged 10 and with parents George and Lucy in 1841 so maybe not the correct one  Undecided

Is his father named as Henry on the marriage certificate - if so what was his occupation (and on the birth certificate)?
I wonder if they were travellers and didn't bother with censuses.

Family Search has an Alfred baptised 1844 to parents Henry and Hannah and I notice that your John has a son Alfred- family name?

Will keep looking.

best wishes

when I read the variations on names (not just here) it makes you wonder what some of us are really called.
I did notice a Nutbum transcription earlier in this search.

best wishes to all

I think I have found the family of Hannah Ward.
In the Comyn's book it says that the family as follows lives in Burley Rails Beaulieu.

It is either James Ward and his wife Martha (nee Bubb and nee Row) with Hannah born 1811, Other children are James, Anne, William, Martha, Benjanin and Henry. Also daughter Mary Row by first husband of Martha.

Or it is Henry Ward with wife Elizabeth (nee Button) with Hannah born 1794. Other children are Elizabeth (married Cemmish), william, Celia, Henry, John, Jane.

This should narrow it down a bit.
