Hi Terry,

the earliest census we have access to is for 1901, before Flora was born.

Maybe somone can find something in the Civil Registration lists.

Good luck,
Bob

Why don't you try putting something in the local paper?  It is a small island and somebody is bound to know something

There is a community website for the Isle of Barra which has a forum area.

http://www.isleofbarra.com/

Otherwise the Oban Times or West Highland Free Press both cover the Western Isles (both online).

There are lots of community centres / museums on Harris and Lewis that often have a family history section, not sure if there is anything like that on Barra.  There is certainly a museum in Castlebay so you try asking them.

You should get the ferry over and get talking to a few people, I listening to someone on the next table to me on one trip to Uist via Barra.  One chap got talking to someone and by the time the boat got to Castlebay they had found they had lots of relations in common!

There is also the Stornoway Gazette which covers the whole of the Western Isles.  Just google them,
