The drapers, david and mary, and peter and his unc

Beatrice Minnie Trotman 1888-1919
« on: Thursday 03 January 08 18:00 GMT (UK) »

Im wondering if anyone here can help me. I have been unable for years now to get past this stumbling block in my family tree. My grandmother was born July 20 1919 in virden manitoba. She was adopted when she was a baby, we were told her mother had died while giving birth to her. When researching the family tree, finding her, and ordering her death record, i found that she did not die in childbirth with my grandmother. She died 4 long months later from a massive infection from the childbirth. I cant imagine what she went through trying to get healthy to raise her daughter. I found the family of my grandmothers birth father, and they sent me a picture of my great grandmothers headstone. this is where it gets mysterious. Her headstone says she is buried with an infant daphnee...but i was always told that was my grandmothers birthname. was my grandmother a twin? if so how do i find out? I know nothing about my great grandmother, so I come to all of you, who have been able to help me before. I need to find out who she was. I am a birthmother myself, and so I feel her inside my heart strongly, knowing the sacrifice she made. this is what i have on her, its not much, and I cant read the place of birth in england, it looks like it could be dorset, or d___cot? she was born dec 20 1888,died sept 19 1919 in virden manitoba. She married my great grandfather peter draper, and i was told by his decendants that they had another child, a boy who died at or shortly after birth. they estimate his birth to be 1916 or 17. Peter was born 1887 in basingstoke. Beatrice's death record says that her fathers name was william trotman born england. Beatrice is listed as protestant, and she had been in the country 6yrs at the time of her death. I want to find out if my grandmother was a twin, and about the life of this remarkable woman. can  anyone help me? Her full name was beatrice minnie trotman. I assumed this was her maiden name because of her father listed as a trotman. I have not been able to find her on any census records because i really dont know where to look in england.

I wondered if it could be DIDCOT, Berkshire - and sure enough, this would seem to confirm it

Wallingord Regn District (Berks / Oxon borders) covers Didcot .....

Hmmmm - that birth should be this lass - East Hagbourne in the same Ditrict as Didcot, but the Father is not William    Huh

Actually this couple are a bit old for parents - maybe they are Grandparents ?

The Birth Cert will clarify if you purchase it ....

1891 - RG12/985; Folio 69; Page 6 - East Hagbourne, Berks ...
'New Town'

Andrew Trotman 57  Head Railway Signalman Glos, Byford ?? Stonehouse

NB There are other Beatrice Trotman around, but this one seemed a good match - Didcot etc ..... and also where she married ...

Hi Newfster -I know it's too much of a coincidence -but just thought it worth double checking -especially with the Father William (and Andrew found)

As we all know from results in this business, there can be many incorrect facts passed on ....

maybe Dec 20th is correct, but could have been 1887, and not registered until the new Year ..... when she died, B was in a 'foreign' country - maybe the next of kin didnt know her fathers name for sure ?

The Marriage Index entry seems correct tho in that it matches the Draper info - so perhaps purchasing that would be a better bet than the Birth Cert to verify Father's name ?

I was just thinking too, might not be anything, but ive had a reoccurring dream all my life with me saying the birth records are wrong, its not the right date! i wonder if it was my great grandmother trying to help me find her....that is if you believe in that stuff, which i do. hmmm. so how do i go about ordering this from england? im in canada. and is there any record of any children being born to peter and beatrice, i was told the boys name was peter jr. I always thought it odd that she was 31 when she died (the same age as me now) and haddent had any other children.

Hi Angela, you can order - using the key info of name, Year and 'quarter', District, Vol and Page number from an online GRO service - using a credit card.

Its a 'fill in the boxes' application, but shout if you have a problem.
