Steve has asked that this post be moved back to the Suffolk board. To summarize in case anyone can help.
Edward was b c 1832 according to some censuses in Livermere, Suffolk. He married Ellen Mary WARD on 7th November 1852 at the Wesleyan Chapel in Wisbech. His father is listed as William Parfrey ( deceased ). Profession of Father listed as Labourer. Residence at time of marriage - Walpole St Peter, Norfolk.
Suffolk Sue has found this baptism at Little Livermere (Livermere Parva)
Edward PALFREY illegitimate son of Sarah PALFREY, born 3rd June, 1829 and baptized 16th July, 1829 at Little Livermere.
Of course it is possible that this is David's Edward, as father's were often "invented" to save face with the in laws, and the fact that he is described as deceased on the marriage record is certainly convenient if this was indeed the case.
If anyone has any further thoughts or opinions or can find Edward on the 1841/51 censuses, I am sure that David would be very grateful.

This is interesting.
From the Suffolk Marriage Index
William Hailstone Sarah Palfrey
22nd March, 1831 = Lt. Livermere
=================
1841
HO107/1036/14 - Pakenham Folio 3, Page 2 Mill Hill
HAILSTONE William - 30 - ag lab Sarah - 30 EDWARD - 12 John - 10 William - 3 Charles - 10 months
==========
Could this be your Edward?
In 1851, the family are still in Pakenham, minus Edward, but with more children. William was born Pakenham and Sarah was born Livermere. Can't seem to find Edward in 1851 under the name of Hailstone or Palfrey or similar.

It could have been done to save face. I am sure many an illegitemate person invented a parent for the purposes of respectability. On the other hand maybe William Palfrey was his grandfathers name. It would be interesting to see who Sarahs parents are.

Livermere doesn't appear to be on the IGI, so unless someone is going to Suffolk Record Office and could look for you. Not sure when I am going again.

Hi Steve,
Just stumbled upon this post - as someone already suggested your Edward Parfrey might have been a Palfrey. If so, there was an Edward Palfrey baptised in 1825 in Little Livermere - he was the son of William Palfrey (which would tie in with the marriage certificate information) and Sarah (nee Cocksedge). I know the birthdate is off by seven years, but it's worth bearing in mind
I'm actually descended from this Palfrey family; William and Sarah's third child was my 3x great-grandfather George, and he had a son (also confusingly named Edward) who was the father of my great-grandmother Helen. All were born in Little Livermere, so if you ever find that you're definitely related to the Palfreys of this area, please drop me a line
Becky
