Poppyann, is his dob from the 1851 census?  Withyham is right on the Kent border so that's worth bearing in mind.  I can find some indications of BOX marriages on the SMI that could be connected to your research one in particular in Rotherfield right next to Withyham.  He's not on the IGI so you'll have to check out the Withyham parish records if we can't chase him down online.  Do you have any more information?

Hi Jane, thanks for the reply. I got my info from someone on Genes Reunited. He married a lady called Elizabeth Hunnisett. Their first child was born in Withyham in 1798 called Henry. Regards Ann

The IGI has a baptism for a Harriet Eliza BOX, dau of Francis and Elizabeth in 1796 at Speldhurst, followed by some at Withyham. They may have been at Speldhurst first. Although the SMI says he was from the parish of Speldhurst he may not have been born there. And also being a widower when he married Elizabeth HUNNISETT means he may have been a bit older.

Thanks Ian. I didn't know that Elizabeth was the 2nd wife of Francis. I have checked the IGI and found that Francis married Ann Gilbert 19/10/1781 in Lewes. Regards Ann

That is a submitted entry and is not on the Sussex Marriage Index, and so should be treated with a bit of suspicion. You would need to check the original register to confirm it.

There is a Francis Box will dated 1838 available from the TNA website. He is a blacksmith from Withyham. Could be your Francis, unless he was still around in the later censuses.

Might be worth looking at.
