My Great Great Grandmother was Margaret Salisbury Jones born about 1855 in Llanbillio. I think I have found her parents to be Henry Jones (1816) and Mary Salisbury (1812 or 1817), but this is only an assumption based on the Salisbury connection. Does anybody else know anything about the Salisburys or Salisbury Jones?

Hello Littleclair - welcome to Rootschat

Margaret Salisbury Jones birth was registered June Qtr. 1858 in Bangor, Anglesey. (gro ref:11b. 445)

If you send for her birth certificate that will give you both her parents' names and the maiden name of her mother - and also her father's occupation.

Then you will be sure, and will also have an occupation to check against possible census matches.

I sent off for the marriage certificate and discovered that Margaret Salisbury Jones parents are Charles Jones and Joanna Jones formally Price.
Margaret Salisbury Jones was born at the school house Llanfihengel Escefiog.
I have searched and searched and cannot find any other information about the family - no marriage, no census nothing. Can anyone help?

Found this on 51 census.Not Margaret but could be her parents,if it is at least we have some places of birth and occupation for them

Not sure how apt the locations are but as Isobel says, the occupation for Charles would be crucial information - what does the cert say?

looks like Rachel Jones died in 66 Merthyr Tydfil so maybe the family are still together on 61 but so far I cant find them. Tongue

Just had some bad news :-(
My ideas were all wrong...!
Apparently there are TWO Margaret Salisbury Jones born in Anglesey.... the one I had the birth cert for and another one who cannot be found.....
Guess what? The birth cert is the wrong one.....

I ordered Margaret's Marriage cert because I had my suspicions when I found a second Margaret Salisbury Jones marriage. Turns out her father is Henry and she was born in 1855 in Llanbabo area, Anglesey....

Now I am wondering if her parents are Henry and Mary mentioned above.... but I have no evidence on this....except the 1861 census. However, Margaret's marriage cert in 1882 states his occupation as watchmaker (deceased) and on the census I found he is an ag lab.... doesn't quite fit?

I'm looking for the family in 1861, 1871 and whatever happened to the parents after that. Margaret is a servant in Chester in 1881. She is known as Margaret S or Margaret Salisbury after she moved, but before is so ambiguous I don't know where to turn!

Any suggestions? Am at the moment scrolling through Margaret Jones in 1861.....

This was a while ago and I've forgotten all the details!

Can you post everything that you know to be true about Margaret? Like the censuses for her after she married, her death record if you've found it etc. That way maybe we can help you to choose.

OK here goes....

Margaret Salisbury Jones

Born c1855 (from marriage cert in 1882 she is 27)

1881 census in St Oswalds, Chester working as servant on 23 Victoria Road, where she marries from. Working as a servant for John E Hughes, Commercial Traveller.

Marriage 24 May 1882 at Grosvenor Park Baptist Chapel, Chester to John Richard Jones (Railway Fire Man - also 27). Father Henry Jones (deceased) watchmaker. She is a spinster. There is a D Jones witness but this could be John's brother as I am pretty sure he has a bro David.

1891 census in Chester St Thomas with 4 children, Mary Anita (c1882), Sarah Elizabeth (c1885), John Richard Salisbury (1887), Llewellyn Salisbury (1890). Living at 5 Parkgate Road.

In 1901 census at 2 Abbots Nook Chester St Oswald with children above plus Margaret Winifred Salisbury (7 apr 1894) and Mabel Ellen Victoria (1898).

In 1911 census at 29 Crane Street Chester with all children and various lodgers. By this point John is a railway engine driver.

Place of birth always either Llanbabo or Llanbillio Anglesey.

I think that is all the definite info I have.

I don't know whether ordering death cert might help? Not sure whether it will give me anything extra. I think she died in Q2 in 1913 in Chester.

Have you seen this 1861 census?

Margret SALSBURY boarder W 76 - do widow - Llandrhythat?

(sorry - rubbish at placenames in N Wales!)

Seems likely to be one - or the other, lol!

I found that one at first but was not sure because the age is different to the wedding cert (although I know these things don't always match up) and I can't find Henry as a watchmaker. I think that is the best one though...... if two of us agree on a maybe then maybe it is a bigger maybe! I can't do Welsh names either.....

Now to see if I can find the family in 1871.... might shed some light on the watchmaker thing.....!
