Dear all,

Could anyone take a photo of these houses that my ancestors use to live at (Frost Family)

25 Gisbourne Street, Derby
13 Gisbourne Street, Derby
6 King Street, Derby

Normanton Barracks

If the building does not longer exists then a shot of the area would be appreciated.

Hello

Just looked in my A to Z and it appears that Gisbourne Street doesn't exist anymore. There are Gisborne Close, cres, Gardens. Do you know which parish they were in as all of these are in different places?
There are two King Streets, one near the city centre and one in Duffield (about 5 miles out of centre). The one in the city centre is now part of the ring road, but there may be some old places there.
Gisborne gardens is quite near the King Street near the city centre. I would be happy to go and take photos of both of King Street and Gisborne Gardens if you were interested? They are not far from where I live.

Dear Claire,

I am going to take up your kind offer.

The building N° 6 King Street will be the one near the City Center. And I would also love a photo of Gisbourne Gardens.

Thankyou very much and will wait for your photos.
Best wishes and Happy New 2008 !

Am on the job - but it might have to be next weekend as this horrible winter darkness means I don't see daylight when I am at work!

I went in todays murky weather (pictures not very beautiful). King Street only really has three buildings on it now that could have been dwellings - numbers 15, 17 and 19 - but have taken photos anyway. I'll have to do this in bits. because can only attach two at a time!
This is the top and bottom of King Street. I think number six was on the left of the view to the bottom. This is now a bank down to the A52!

These two photos are of the houses left on King Street and a pub on King Street which was built in 1680 which I guess you ancestors could have gone to (just for interest)!

This final photo is Gisborne Green/Gardens. It is in the centre of a council estate.

Thanks for the photos, Claire.

When my ancestor's first wife died in 1822, they were living in King Street - the burial register doesn't give a number.

According to Pigot's Commercial Directory for 1835 the landlord at the Seven Stars was Roger Longdon, King st. There were several other taverns on King Street at the time, including both the Old Flower Pot and the New Flower Pot.

The flower pot is actually on one of the pictures - the one with the 15, 17, 19 King Street on. I didn't realise it was old as it is. It is a bit of a music venue now!
