Tracing Hood family Tranent

 Hi  We  are  looking  for any  information about my great grandfather   David   Hood  coalminer    and Catherine hood  .Who lived in Church st ,From about 1890-1934 . They had a son John  Thomson Hood , Who was a barman in Portobello . We would like to hear from any decendants of this  Hood  family .  Kind Regards Dave and Teresa  Cheesy Kiss

the website mentioned by Elaine is mine. I have more info on some of the family and can check to see what I have for you, but I've not heard anything from descendants of this family.

This was an intersting one.

I tried to find which David Hood it could be in my tree, there was a problem. The only possible one (David born 1861, Newbattle) had apparently married someone called Isabella Thomson.  This didn't agree with the 1891 and 1901 census, so I checked one of the children's births.
It turns out that the marriage certificate is wrong. She's named as Isabella (not Catherine) Thomson on the certificate. Maybe the fact that she signed her name with an 'X' had something to do with it.
