15 Eaton Place
« on: Saturday 05 January 08 17:09 GMT (UK) »

My Great Grandfather was employed as a Butler at 15 Eaton Place (Percy Allard), my Great Grandmother as a Childrens Nurse at 3 Grovenor Street (Elizabeth Witt). They married in Aug 1888. Can anyone assist with a census showing who they may have worked for and with.

Edit: The Buxtons have moved to Grosvenor Gardens by 1891 though

I know that they go to Wales and I can trace them forward from there. It's just that on the marriage certificate he is shown as being employed as a butler at 15 Eaton Place and that was 1888, unless its a 16, but I doubt it. And Elizabeth Witt is at 3 Grosvenor Street.  Are either traceable in 1891?

1891 - RG12/687; Folio 71; Page 19 - Kent, Maidstone (west)
24, Foster Street

Wonder for whom he Butlered ?

Percy A [W] Allard 33  Head Butler Suffolk, Barham
Lizzie Wallard 30  Wife Middx, St James
Bertram P Wallard 2  son Kent, Loose(?)
Harold G Wallard 4/12  son do

Lizzie Jones 21  Visitor Schollmistress Hanover Sq.

The sons' PoBs match with the Welsh 1901 data.

In 1901 they have a dau Dorothy E. - cant work out her PoB tho - should be 1893/4 based on age 7.

Georgina was a Fulcher, I had that sheet. My grandfather was born in Loose, Kent just outside Maidstone at Brook Cottage, then they moved supposedly to Foster Street in Maidstone. Their first daughter Dorothy Evelyn Allard was born at Shipbourne on the 27 February 1894 which amazes me, why there!

Thats just brilliant info, thanks a lot, much appreciated. Wonder where he worked as a butler if he was living there. He has obviously left the Buxtons and eventually moves on to the Trevors, so it makes sense that whoever it is he would also have been influential.

Yes, just figured out its Shipbourne, in the Malling RD - but close to Maidstone.

Yes, I expect he had impeccable references - maybe a bit of googling will produce a shortlist of potential employers ?

Took me ages to find 15 Eaton Place in 1891 and it's a complete mess Tongue

15 is occupied by servants only and I don't know which household they belong to  Undecided

strange the way those households could be enumerated - seen similar before !

Now, if Graham had mentioned he knew that offspring were born in Kent before 1891  ....    Roll Eyes
