My relative Joseph Griffiths married a Catherine Batho(Bather?) at Ellesmere in the October Quarter of 1889 at Ellesmere. In the 1891 Census the couple are living at Newnes Ellesmere, with their son Richard who is given as four months old.RG12/2121/66/2. For a start I can't find a suitable Birth for this Richard, for surely his age on the night the Census was taken would put his Birth in the Qctober Quarter of 1890?I have been looking imto this, having made contact with someone who has a Richard Griffiths born in Ellesmere in 1890,as a minor relation.Their Richard apparently married a Margaret Hughes in London,a Marriage I can't find either!whether it is relevant or not, their Richard Griffiths was in the Royal Flying Corps!
Regards William Russell Jones Cefn Mawr Wrexham.

I suspect your estimate for Richard's birth is a little out - firstly there is not an "October Quarter" - the quarters being Mar/Jun/Sept/Dec
Secondly - Richard was stated as being 4 mths old on the night of the 1891 census
The 1891 census was taken Sun/Mon 5/6 April 1891
Which would give Richard a birth date of Dec 1890 - and he may not have been registered until the end of Dec and therefore his birth reg could be Mar qtr 1891
The Richard henry Griffiths reg posted by Mum44 seems to be the most likely reg for quarter and year -but only if he had a middle name of henry?
On census forms middle names aren't always recorded -the enumerator would just put the name he was told

Thanks Suz,and of course the problem with this entry of Richard Henry Griffiths,in any event,is that there is a Death in 1898 of a Richard Henry Griffiths, whose Birthyear is given as 1891!

Hello both -
I've been looking for them in 1901 - I haven't struck lucky!
I've tried Joseph, Catherine and Richard - Griffiths with and without an S on the end, England and Wales - incase they were in Llanarmon where Catherine came from.
Up to now - nothing - no Catherine or Jospeh or Richard - not even the wrong ones!
I'm off to bed now, so I'll look in the morning and see how you did!
Night night!
Mary

..and to add to complication on FreeBMD the birth reg for Richard henry griffiths is entered twice -with different page numbers!!- I think it is a transcription error -they couldn't decide 0n the number -so they transcribed both options!!!
Love a mystery -but not so much when it isn't solved!!!
I apologise for telling you there is not an October quarter-just realised you use the 1st month of quarter instead of last

Thanks Suz,and I think it will help if I list what I know about the children of Joseph Griffiths and Catherine Bather, with info received from another descendant of the couple. The contact lists three children,as well as Richard, there is a Mary Emma Griffiths born in Ellesmere in c 1893.There is a Birth of a Mary Emma Griffiths in the July Quarter at Ellesmere in 1893.There is also a possible Death for her in the July Quarter at Ellesmere in 1898.There is another son Edwin born in Ellesmere in c 1894.Again there is the Birth of an Edwin Griffiths in the October Quarter of 1894. I have been able to find this Edwin in 1901,living at the home of his Grandparents,Richard and Catherine Bather at Ellesmere, where he is given as born in Ellesmere in c 1895.See RG13/2549/33/23. I have fairly good info on the later life of this Edwin,so it is just the doubts as to what may have happened to the Richard Griffiths.
