Hi Can anybody help me find any information regarding my ggg grandfather, Charles Aslett. According to the census he states he was born in Stockbridge, Kent, although I believe Stockbridge is in Hampshire. He was born 1811 and married a widow, Margaret Chapelhow, in Shap, Cumbria in 1845. He was worked as an 'excavator' (probably on the railway as he works as a railway labourer on other census) and claims his father's name was Thomas, also a labourer. He died in Sunderland aged 58 in 1869. I know alot of Aslett's orginated from Surrey and on the 1861 census he actually says he is from Surrey but he was so precise about his place of birth being Stockbridge I think he may of got his counties mixed up! Does anybody recognise him? Or can anybody tell me how I could trace his birth?
