There was an ad on the show tonight - a 1 month free trial of Ancestry (presumably .com.au), via (for Qld) next week's Sunday Mail. I assume the other states papers will have a similar link for this.
I'll have to get the husband to join

Yes, I saw that, Trish!! Probably worth my while having a go - if I can remember to buy the Sunday Mail! Ancestry is getting a lot of mileage out of this!

A problem I have with the usual Ancestry 'free' trail is that they want my credit card details - for a 'free' trail ha. They rely on grumpy old men like me forgetting when the trail finishes and before you know it there's a debit. If you ask me Ancestry are out for world domination!!

I don't actually know what are the 5 states - I'm sure you can get a Melbourne paper in Tasmania  It's a wonderful place & no doubt you will enjoy - I just have a problem with it being called a state with a population of less than 1/2 million. I'm going to try at least! My cousin and I will have fun if we manage it - she is a keen genie too!

My problem with them is quite basic, I don't see why I need to provide my credit card details for a 'free trial' if I'm not buying anything. That's rhetorical by the way.

I'm with you, Bob. I can't see why they need your credit card number if it is a truly free trial. They could easily program the system to send an email at the end of your trial asking you to provide credit card details if you want your sub to continue... Meanwhile, they haven't sent me the movie tickets they told me I'd won for taking a free trial. Something rotten in the state of Denmark!

AND it is half price $75 for 12 months England/Australia (also half price if you want the World option)

They are doing it again. If they want to give me a free trail I'll take it but what gives them the right to take my credit card details if I'm not buying anything. I know all the answers bye the way. Flippin' eck, it's a matter of principle.
Got that off my chest, now I'd better sign up!

We probably feel about ancestry what a drug addict thinks about their dealer.
Youve got to have it but you dont have to like them.
I noticed my UK membership expires in april = probably about $200 !
I'll sign on in oz and if it still has all I need I will cancel the UK one - The offer is till 20th jan so I'll leave it till then - get the max out of them - that'll show them !!!!
